That's EZ. I run 22 groups and ALL are in Moderated status right off the bat.
When a person posts for the first time, that tells me if they are ligit or not
and if so, I remove the moderated status for them. Of course, sometimes you can
tell by the email address or their Yahoo ID name such as
EatMyShortsTonite@... or something to that effect.
To do this you must go into the Yahoo group setup - not the member's individual
setup. I also limit all members from posting files until their moderation status
is cleared.

that's what I do with the groups I operate.
once I see the member is legit, I remove the moderation.

As group owner of Hammond Zone I know what a pain these spammers can
be. One of our moderators suggested placing new members
on 'moderated' for their first few posts so we know they are not
spammers or troublemakers. This seems to work great.
