Ethel was my idol even when I was in high school back in the 50s. Our family
had one of her albums that we finally played on a "stero' phonograph that was
newly invented. Back then, there were few PIPE organs around where I lived and
Hammond C3s were the church organs of choice before the Allens which was
supposed to "sound more like a pipe organ". Now I have a 1960 model in my home.
So nostalgic - the memories!
Elthel was the first organist I ever heard who played "pop" and "fast" music on
the organ...like Tico Tico!
Most of my exposure to organ music had been church hymns, etc.
She is an ICON for sure!

Ethel Smith had an amazing talent that will never be equaled! She could play
things in her huge heeled shoes most people couldn't do in their Organmasters.
(I don't think I could even WALK in some of the shoes she wore!!) She was a
talented entertainer by any measure. Ethel is one of the reasons I have a
Hammond.

certainly had an interesting life ! I know she inspired me and countless other
musicians all
over the world. If any one in the group has a kind thought to share, I hope you
will. If
not, break out the old Tico Tico and give it a spin...
