Hi folks,
I've been letting these occasional emails to my friends around the world lapse, sorry. It's been about 10 weeks since I last wrote, and my goodness I have too much news. Best way to check out my activities would be to visit my blog and skim through the photos you'll find there. I've listed and summarised my entries from the last few months below.
The main news I'd like to share with you now is that I've set up an online shop on my website. It's not fully set up, but already you can download songs from 4 CDs to be played on your computer or MP3 player, download the whole CD, or order the physical CD to be sent to you. As you may know, the music industry is set up so that very little money you spend on music actually goes to the artist. The internet allows independent artists such as myself and my companions to get our music to listeners directly. By downloading music from the ESL shop, you will be directly supporting the musicians involved. I've also started an online discussion on what prices and conditions you think are appropriate - your feedback would be appreciated here: Price for downloading songs/CDs
What else...? I've had wonderful musical activities in Brisbane since returning. There have been some great new musical companions joining our circle - Asim Gorashi from Sudan playing at Global Soul Music and with Tibet2Timbuk2, Aidan on kora, Ravi and his father Robert playing jazz guitar and piano at my weekly jam sessions, and young Indian singer Menaka Visvanathan who also performed with Tibet2Timbuk2. I'm really happy with the music which is coming together, and while audience numbers are still small, I'm happy to work towards making a really nice CD at this stage, and hopefully that will allow me to promote our music better next year.
COMING UP
My good friend, Taro Terahara, a wonderful bansuri player (Indian bamboo flute) is arriving from Japan tomorrow, for a one month tour mostly around Brisbane but also including a concert in Melbourne and a drive across Australia via Canberra and Sydney. Please take a look here for our schedule: Taro Terahara in Australia, and if you are in Melbourne please come to our concert on Dec 22.
My plans for going to India have been shelved for now, due to some very promising activities here in Brisbane, but mainly due to lack of funds. I'll still be visiting Japan from July to October next year though.
