Once every few months is good for keeping you posted, I hope?
Life goes on in sunny Brisbane. I'm feeling very settled here now, especially as I've accumulated a more sustainable student-base - I've currently got 9 kids and 4 adult students. There are some photos of my students here, although a few have stopped (or taken a break) and others started.
Last time I wrote I was about to start a series of concerts with bansuri player Taro Terahara, and you can find loads of photos of our concerts and travels on my blog. We had a big concert in Brisbane City Hall, followed by a few little concerts in regional areas, one in Melbourne and a big drive back across Australia to Brisbane. We played 13 times at the wettest Woodford Folk Festival ever, and then played an amazing concert with touring American ICM artists, Steve Oda (sarod) and Ty Burhoe (tabla).
After Taro's departure I flaked out for a few weeks, and since then have had a few very nice Indian classical performances, with touring bansuri player Manose, vocal-sitar duo Debapriya-Samanwaya, and local sitar player Saikat Bhattacharya for Saraswati Puja.Â
I've also been continuing my monthly Global Soul Music, including musicians from Iran, Sudan, India and jazz and African styles. Unfortunately my camera died recently which has made my blogging much less visually appealing, sorry....
COMING UP:
Life is expected to go on at much the same pace over the next few months - lots of tabla lessons with my growing number of students, especially lots more Indian kids, a few more monthly concerts including a Sudanese-jazz-tabla collaboration and another Tibet2Timbuk2 concert, and lots of quality time in my beautiful riverside home.Â
I've bought my tickets to Japan for this year - I'll be flying into Osaka on August 21 and out again on November 17.Â
