Hey everyone,
I've been wanting to do this since last year's Big Sur Soundshift, but the
recent orchestra performances at the Matthew Sperry memorial concerts and
last week's Rovate show have me feeling particularly inspired, so I'm
putting together a guided improv orchestra event on Sunday, August 7th at 21
Grand in Oakland, California.
The idea is to see the different strategies that different conductors will
bring to guided orchestras, so Phillip Greenlief, Aurora Rising, Eric Glick
Rieman and myself will each guide an orchestra for 10-20 minutes. Each
conductor is encouraged to develop whatever new signals or scoring systems
they need to get the orchestral interaction they're looking for, starting
from the common hand signals used in the Moe!Kestra! and Pornorchestra. If
this goes well, I'd like to see something like this a couple times a year,
with different conductors.
So what we need now is musicians. If you're interested in participating,
please let me know. We're going to plan to have a practice session from 5pm
- 7pm on the day of the show. The show will be approximately 8 to 10 pm.
Please plan on bringing a music stand, and if needed, your own amplification
and/or small table.
...and for anyone who doesn't know what we mean by 'guided improvisation
orchestra', please check out the bay area's own mightyfine Moe! Staiano's
Moe!Kestra! this Friday at LoBot gallery. (Moe, I don't see the info on
bayimproviser yet.)
Thanks in advance,
Matt Davignon
p.s.: Regarding the 'Inventor Series' I posted previously, thanks for your
submissions. It's still on, I'm currently working on putting bills together
for different nights.
