Re: [eyeless] "Dissonance" questions

Hi Thomas,

Martyn asked me to remind him about adding comments for the Dissonance
albums on the website, as they had left out some important clarifications
for some reason I do not know (they did have some problem with at least
getting the vinyls ready because the pressing plant changed their contact
and such things) .... . I still haven't heard these new pressings or
reworkings (?)) apart from some snippets on the blrrecords.com site -- there
seem to have been some minor changes, but I cannot tell for sure. More info
is forthcoming thus and we are sorry the info was not included as it should
have been!

You might be correct about me warning people a bit too much ... will think
about rewording it ... . I did change some small details on the MB/EIG site
while updating them yesterday, but nothing on this release.

Martyn is a bit reluctant about mentioning the history of the mentioned band
... :-/ .

The 'Lull' single is not so bad as Martyn has always wanted to have it
though. I once pointed out to him that it sounded rather similar to Lemon
Kittens. Which is one of the few times he couldn't have agreed more with me
... -- to his knowledge, Karl Blake was the only person on the planet who
thought it was good ... ;-).

All the best,
Jerry

Subject: [eyeless] "Dissonance" questions

| Hi all,
|
| have received my copies of "Songs of Transformation" and
| "Dissonance/Antagonistic Music" from A-Scale today. Super-fast service
| from Martyn as usual! Because I haven't yet had the inner quietness
| that I suppose is needed for "Songs of Transformation", I listened to
| "Dissonance" first and must say that it's strange how 'beautiful', in
| a perverse way, this music seems now, 27 years later. The 'words of
| warning' posted by Jerry I fear might put people off.... Yes, there's
| no conventional 'music' on it, but it transports a very intriguing,
| very eerie mood not that far removed from "Sun-like gold" or "Pale
| hands". Wonderfully packaged as well!
|
| I have a question though: what EXACTLY is on these two discs? There is
| one disc (mt 196) that runs about 75 mins, and another (mt 197) which
| runs about 63 mins. Which of these is "American Dissonance"? Which
| titles are the re-worked ones from 1994? Or is one of the discs the
| completely reworked version, and "UK dissonance" not included at all?
|
| Second question: Who and what were The Reluctant Stereotypes?!!
| According to the booklet, Martyn recorded a 7" with them in 1979
| called "Lull". What does he do there, does he sing? Damn, I thought I
| had each and every record Martyn has done, and now this.... Nothing on
| the Eyeless/MB site about this either....
|
| Best
| Thomas
