I saw Ezio in Brighton on Friday. What can I say? Excellent. And let
me tell you, my expectations were high .... I'd travelled from Geneva
that afternoon especially for the gig.
Before it started, Ezio was standing next to the stage and was
actually lookig nervous (amazing after playing so many gigs). The
first song started ... a bit of a wobbly start ... Ezio forgot some
of the lyrics so he passed it over to the crowd to fill in ... turns
out everyone forgot the lyrics. A little dry humour Ezio style put
an end to the nerves ... "two rules when playing live, don't shit
yourself and dont forget the words, i just did both!" Honesty
rules .. that broke the ice and rest of the gig was storming.
The set was full of the classics, but also a good number of new
songs - about 6 in all. I was particularly impresssed with the song
about the shadow boxer. It certainly whetted my appetite for a new
release (any ideas when, anybody?).
Also a couple of covers, 59 yards was excellent - Boo Hewerdine's
originaly version is a favourite of mine, but nicely adapted by Ezio
and quite different from the original. Then there was the now famous
Cowboy Song which dovetails into The Further We Stretch (was the
Cowboy Song originally Thin Lizzy, anybody know?)
Also news ot me was that Ezio now has a new drummer - a young guy
called Alex (Reeves?). He slotted into Peter's position well,
despite Ezio and Booga continually trying to trip him up (on
purpose?) during some of the solos.
All in all a great night, well worth the trip.
PS. In case Ezio or Booga read this, when will we see you in
Switzerland. Last tour here was after Diesel Vanilla release - too
long ago!! I have some good ideas for velues and how to promote the
gig in Geneva, if you're interested.
