Danity Kane
“More than Making The Band”
An Album Review by Nfared

If anything musically can be said about P Diddy, or Diddy, or whatever his
name may be this week, it’s that he has an ear for talent. Though his popular
reality TV show Making The Band is really nothing more than an ode to himself,
the products of the show are worth the series. “Danity Kane” is a screaming
example of why the show has worth. From their name all the way to their
extremely distinctive sound, this group, premiering with Diddy, has to be one of
the most unexpected girl groups of the past few years. While they pose no
immediate threat, others will be looking over their shoulders.

The group’s first single, “Show Stopper” is definitely not their strongest
effort, but still interesting. The first phrase lets in on the “look what I got”
syndrome that is prevalent in music, “We in the car/we ride slow/we doin things
that the girls don’t do/the boys stare/we smile back/all my girls in the rainbow
Cadillacs. With this groups pop appeal, the song is almost unbelievable,
especially when bragging that they …”sitting on 22’s” and, “yeah we divas/but we
ride like big boys do”. Residents of Missouri will definitely want this one
shown to them. “Hold Me Down”, with its jumpy production and unison to harmony
sound is more the speed of the group as the girls sing about being totally
supported in a relationship. The breakdown nearing the songs end rings true to
their talent as they sing, “I’m the only one/written on your list/you and me so
legitimate/everything is about your chick/that’s why were so exclusive.” The
forceful “One Shot” is an album highlight with
its snake charmer keys and banging the table bass line. The ladies ride the
up-tempo track with ease in the chorus, “All I need is one shot/and baby you’re
gone/it’ll have you callin non stop…”

If anything can be said about P Diddy, or Diddy, or whatever his make may be
this week, it’s that he has an ear for talent. However, it seems as if his ear
for talent only seems to result in one single and a strong album from the artist
he works with. This is saddening seein that the talent and innovation behind
Danity Kane has the potential to far outlast Making The Band or Bad Boy Records.
There’s an “interesting” factor that this group has that other groups dream of
debuting with. As the past predicts, Diddy will be done with them soon.
Hopefully though, the industry won’t be.
