Thank you, I hope we do too!
; )
Well, I hate to disappoint you, but my lyrical inspiration does not
usually come from my dreams (Pixy-led being the exception)....but it is
inspired by the music and my own imagination, which perhaps is a
similar thing.
I don't like to go into tons of detail about what my songs "mean",
because I try to write them in such a way that listeners can bring
their own life experience and meaning to them, but since you asked, I
will tell a little bit about the ones you asked about.
"shadow"
All my songs are thematic hybrids, but the main inspiration for Shadow
was my childhood fascination with Peter Pan and the eventual
realization that he was not going to come for me and take me away to
never never land. There's other stuff too, about a boy I once knew...
"long ago and
> far away"
The music itself was the inspiration. It was on a recording of Medieval
music, and it sounded like such a sad fairytale, so I wrote a little
vignette to try and capture that.
"Kiss of death"
Hmmmm...that was the first Shroudetttes song I ever wrote, for the
Bionaut film.....As I'm sure you know, the first line is from a Sisters
of Mercy song, and I just built a scene around that line.
"Day and Night"
Well, this one is about a specific person in some regards, a Christian
guy I used to date. He played bass for the Shroudetttes at one point -
if you saw us play then, his stage name was Thurston Youngblood.
But on another level the song was also inspired by The Mists of Avalon
and the tension inherent in Christian/Pagan relationships.
"Black"
This one is actually pretty straightforward - it's about the attraction
that the so-called "gothic" lifestyle/scene/state of mind has for those
of us born dark at heart. There's a little bit of other stuff too...
"Let Go"
Kind of a throwback to "Death's too Late" on Drowning Dreams....mostly
this one is me trying to convince myself that it's okay for things to
end. Change = growth.
I wanted it to have an epic feel though, like the Lord of the Rings or
Winterlong (2 of my favorite books).
Okay, I hope that was of interest and I didn't waste everyone's time on
that!
Ciao,
Lydia...*
