Tanjora presents: "Invaders of the Heart" - a group of improvised,
structured, and choreographed dances, inspired by the
infamous Ghawazee dancing girls of Egypt. The subject of many
paintings and engravings by 19th century European "Orientalist"
artists, these entertainers, often of Rom ("Gypsy") descent, had
performed for centuries in the streets and private homes of the
Egyptian villages and towns. With this collection of interpretive
dances we pay homage to our belly dance foremothers.

What happens when belly dancers get lost in time? They have to
shimmy their way back to the present, of course. Come along as
they go careening through the popular music of many eras. The
intrepid temporal wanderers use their moves, fringe, shiny
things, surprises and smiles to infuse new life into those old
standards you associate with different decades. This isn't belly
dance like you've seen or heard it before!

Javanese dance, rarely seen in the West, is unworldly, complex,
and similar in tempo to Tai Chi. Its extreme refinement, control,
and introspective quality is enhanced by ornate hand
movements and elaborate costuming.

The Rogue Performance Festival is now in its FOURTH year!
This Celebration of Independent Performance and Art,
showcases a variety of disciplines including theatre, dance,
music, puppetry, storytelling, spoken word, visual art and film.
This unique and dynamic event provides performing and visual
artists a low-cost, high-profile opportunity to showcase
experimental and polished works! It also provides audiences an
affordable chance to sample a variety of theatrical, performance
and visual styles! Plus 100% of the box-office goes to the
performers!
In our continuing efforts to be INCLUSIVE, this year we have
expanded and added the Rogue Film and the BYOV (Bring Your
Own) components.
This is a non-juried festival - that simply means that no stuffy,
so-called expert is going to decide what is good or what you
should see. We at the Rogue believe that you, the paying
audience, can decide that for yourself. We hope you enjoy the
festival and support its return next year.
