Dawn Upshaw is one of the most intelligent of opera and concert stars of this
current era.
Anyone who can make a Peter Sellers production like "Theodora" a convincing and
riveting experience has to be one of the greats of all time.
Her best roles on stage seem be "Zerlina," Gretel", and others which call upon a
sweet, perky character with a good deal of inner charm.
Her best performance with orchestra seems to be of Barber's "Knoxville 1915"
which stands up there with the song's dedicatee Eleanor Steber.
Anyone who agrees or disagrees can debate this with me. I have the TV tapes to
prove how great this lady is!
