Well, it was nice to find out about the Band Aid DVD Set - after it had come
out. Perhaps if people can post about these things when they first find out
about them so that those of us in smaller countries can start haranging out
local stores to get them in ;)
Is someone who has the DVD able to write up a review on it. I'm interested
in picking it up, but will probably have to wait for a local store to order
it in :(

Hey Gang,
We're climbing in numbers - inching our way to 200 people, which is
pretty good for a Yahoo Club that isn't very active. What would you
like to see here? Weekly chats? Nik Trivia? Discussion/analysation
of his lyrics?
Help! We're all here - now what? Let's get this club going!!

Hi All,
I have recently found 2 parody's of Nik songs on am I right.com,
they are both really good, unfortunately they are currently not up
there to listen to, but I hope they are eventually, here is the
link for the latest one and you can then easily find the misheard
Nik lyrics and the other parody on there. Both of the parody's have
very recently been submitted, both this month I think, here is the
link:

Hi Everyone,
I just thought that I would post this link as I originally mentioned
this on the WKML, that there is a website where you can put yourself
on the world map of Nik Kershaw fans, the original amount of
worldwide Nik fans was only a pathetic 36, if this was really all
the fans that Nik had in the world, releasing albums would be
pointless!!! I thought I would let everyone know where they could
find this site, the number of fans in the last few weeks has hit the
heady heights of 64, which still only a fraction of the Nik fans
that I know are out there. To add yourself to this number all you
need to do is register with Globaldust and then add yourself, easy!
Here is the link for anyone who wants it...

Hey this is great news! And it's good to see the Hear
and Now tour ahead; I was thinking I wouldn't have the
chance to see Nik live.
One of Nik's reviews I saw spoke of legendry key
changes, 'sometimes violent'. It's quirky pop rock and
a great tune that gets me, just like The Works or
Radio Musicola.
With 80s music back in vogue, it's great the Nik will
be reappraised and appreciated just as other bands
like Scritti Politti deserve attention.
Really looking forward to it.

The long term goal and the most important point is the potential to chart
with new material, something we're all desperate to see. Nik is pop, he
shouldn't be running from it, he helped define it!!
Lets just hope he takes the opportunity to do a solo tour, at the same time
as the Hear and Now. That would be just reward to his fans. Even a secret
(warm up) gig for all us in the know :) ... now that would be great!!

News?
Is he cashing in? Selling out? Doing the right thing?
It really sounds like he's between a rock and a hard place right
now. I'm happy to hear that Universal is interested in signing
him but gez - how many "Best of" CDs do we need? Who's
braindrain idea was that? I really do think they could introduce
him to a whole new generation based on his music TODAY and
not have to sell his old stuff to get people to listen to the NEW
stuff.. All one has to do is do a quick search online and read all
the wonderful music reviews of his last 2 CDs. Here's hoping if
he signs Universal that they don't push him into commercial stuff
that doesn't really reflect who he is.. Nik is so freaking
underrated - it truly is sad! With the right promotion to the 18 - 40
age group, he could really be "something" again!
Are we all going to email him and give him our support
regardless of what he decides? I think he just needs to hear
from us to let him know that we're there to support him no matter
what!!
A tour sounds AMAZING too.. I just wish though that it was one
that would travel across North America as well.. *Sigh* I can
keep my fingers crossed in hopes of Nik having a gig in the UK
around the time I'm there next summer!

All is, indeed, forgiven. I don't care if I have to get my favourite songs
again just to get some new material. Sure, there will be people out there
that don't like this, but then there always will be, no matter what the
situation.
In a time when I can look thru the New Release section of the local CD shop
and not recognize a single artist, it will be good to have a familier face
looking back at me with a musical style I like and enjoy backing it up.

Here's Nik's letter:
Thursday May 13, 2004
Dear All,
Rumours abound on some of the unofficial sites, so time to put
the record straight.
We are currently talking to Universal (who own MCA and, therefor
my old recordings) about the possibility of a two album deal.
The first would be a "best of" with at least six new tracks. The
"best of" portion would obviously consist of the old hits with a
couple of album tracks but could also include a few of the Eagle
recordings. Universal would undertake to use all their
considerable resources (including T.V advertising) to promote
the record. The target date is September this year.
The second album would be of completely new material and
would follow a year later.
It's only talk at the moment. Whether it happens or not is, pretty
much, down to me. All Universal need to start the ball rolling are
a couple of new tracks to use as singles. Yep, that's all folks, a
couple of, wait for it … hits!!
None of the material they've heard so far has hit the mark. This is
not terribly surprising as the Album I'm currently working on was
only ever intended for release over the internet and a single
would've been a waste of time. Indeed, I was revelling in the
freedom of not having to deliver songs 3.5 minutes long with a
chorus every 45 seconds.
Now, excuse me if I'm feeling a bit sheepish about telling you all
this, but most of you (the faithful) have got all the old stuff several
times over and were probably looking forward to twelve new
tracks in June. So, to ask to fork out your hard earned on yet
another best of just to hear six new tracks seems a bit harsh.
Unfortunately, this is an opportunity I can't afford to turn down. So,
I hope you'll forgive me.
Oh, and you remember I said that I'd never do any of those 80s
tours? That being on one would just look really desperate, and
would signal the end of any aspirations to be considered a
current and socially relevant artist? That it was all too cabaret
and sad and wild horses wouldn't drag me within a fifty mile
radius of any of the gigs?
I lied!
I'll be part of the Hear And Now tour in Dec 2004.
The truth is, I just ran out of reasons for not doing it.
So let me know what you think of my shameless U Turn, wish
me luck with Universal and hope to see some of you in
December. Thanks again for being so patient.
Nik

Hi there,
Nik IS working on a new album - sans a record label except Frank, his
alter ego is giving him a thousand reasons why he shouldn't finish
his latest creative effort. Give him ONE MORE reason why he should
finish by signing up for his mailing list (thereby expressing
interest in a new CD). If he gets enough interest by June - he may
very well self-release a new CD.
You can express your interest in him and his music by visiting:

Hi all
I've just noticed that seller "jill_babybear" has put quite a few of Nik's
picture disc singles up for auction on eBay. She also has the Human Racing
double pack for sale. I think this is the one with the board game on the inside.
I loved that game! We actually cut one up and played it....

Note to me
Possible excuses for not finishing album yet:
1. Have been busy tunnelling my way out of a Thai jail cell with a
plastic spoon after I was caught trying to sneak 11 items through
the "10 items or less" checkout in Bangkok Sainsburys.
2. Have been recovering in hospital after receiving severe carpet
burns during an altercation with Uma Thurman.
3. Freddie Starr ate my hard disk.
4. Was recently reattached to Derek, my long lost Siamese twin and
have been unable to find any clothes to fit.
5. Have been spending time alphabetizing my Betamax video collection
of "The golden age of steam".
Indeed, those of you who patronize our beloved Sunday tabloids may
have read of another distraction keeping me from my studio. It's all
lies, of course, except for the bits that are true. If you don't know
what I'm talking about, believe me, ignorance is bliss.
So, another Chistmas and, unless the festivities are postponed until
next June, you won't be finding the new Nik Kershaw album in your
stocking. Yes, that's right, June. I may be erring a bit on the
cautious side but, let's face it, Oct 03 proved to be a bit on the
optimistic side and I don't want to make that mistake again.
Meanwhile, you've got six months to convince all of your mates to
sign up for the mailing list at the bottom of this page. Keep those
emails coming. Let's hope Kershaw gets off his arse and answers some
of them in 04!
Have a great Christmas and a somewhat better than average new year!!
God bless
Nik xxxxx
