Come See FiddleSticks and Friends in Utah’s Dixie

We’re playing at two fun venues on Saturday April 22 in Southern Utah.  Of course it’s high Spring there, so it’s a great time to follow our migration south for some cool tunes.  And see how great we sound with fiddler Deborah Bailey and accordionist/guitarist Andrew Maxfield.

Here are the details:

SPRINGDALE, UT

Saturday, April 22, 4 pm

Zion Canyon's 2nd Annual Earth Day Festival

Giant Screen Theatre Complex

145 Zion Park Blvd.

Springdale, Utah

Zion National Park, the Town of Springdale, and the “Springdale Locally Is Globally Organization” (SLIGO) are sponsoring an Earth Day festival at the gates of majestic Zion National Park.  There will be music, food, activities, Arbor Day events, and displays about eco-friendly farming and living.  FiddleSticks will be playing from 4 to 5, but come early and enjoy the day’s activities (and marvel at the solar-powered sound system on the music stage!)  The event is free and family friendly.  For directions, call us at 801-221-1108, or email Julie_Hancock@....

ST GEORGE, UT

Saturday, April 22, 8-10 pm

3B's South West Wraps

Dinner and Song Night

480 West 145 South

St. George, Utah

3B’s South West Wraps is a great new café and music venue in the heart of historic St George.  We love this town, especially in April!  Come and enjoy the perfect weather, and discover a new favorite place to eat.  And of course, support the FiddleSticks Dixie Tour.  There’s no cover, but of course you’ll want to buy dinner or a snack!  For information, call Thomas at 435 674 3787

AMPERSAND UPDATE

The new CD is selling well, but there must be some of our fans who haven’t yet picked up a copy, since there seem to be quite a few still in our garage!  So here’s a special Bonus Inducement:  For every Ampersand CD ordered direct on our website or by mail order for the rest of the month of April, we’ll send with the CD an EXTRA COPY of the disc absolutely free.  You can use the extra for your car or computer, or give it away to spread the good word.  Just be sure to note on the order form that you want the freebie (or send us an email when you order) and we’ll send both the regular CD, and the bonus disc, right to you.

To order by mail: send your check to FiddleSticks, 647 North 1280 East, Orem UT 84097. CDs are $15 per CD, plus a flat $2 shipping per order, even if you order more than one CD.  Or you can order on our website, Fiddle-Sticks.com.  (Of course, you can also order at CDBaby.com, Deseretbook.com, etc., but they can’t give you the special bonus disc!  Or you can download the album at iTunes, etc, but then you don’t get the lovely cover art with Katie and Liz’s picture!)

UPDATE ON KATIE IN AFRICA

Apparently a whole orchestra worth of missionaries found themselves together in Durban, so Katie and her fiddle have had lots of performance time.  Here’s from her latest note home:

This place is so amazing. I love that you drive a few minutes out of town and you can see a herd of zebras eating in a field. Amazing.

Happy Easter. After church we were hooked up with several bags of sweets, and after a terrific dinner, we went straight to the chapel to get ready for the Easter Music Performance, which went super well. They made DVDs and promised to send a copy home. I played fiddle and sang in all the tunes all evening, and then I sang the last song: I Stand All Amazed. Elder Matsoso, my favorite native African missionary, told me that I sounded like a mix between Alicia Keys and Gladys Knight. If I’m lucky by the time I get home, I'll even LOOK black!

So the work is moving along. We have fun teaching. We sing at almost every lesson we teach. And lessons are so unpredictable. We teach Sunday (he's from Zimbabwe) on the side of the road and sometimes homeless guys sit in and listen while smoking Daja. Sweet!  And I'm teaching a guy named Serge from the Congo...in FRENCH!

In the rich areas, tracting is a different experience because they have these huge electrically charged fences around the houses, and huge menacing gates with signs that say "Beware we have a 700 lb dog that will kill you if you even THINK about coming in." People here are really paranoid. Anyway, you have to introduce yourself into a little buzzer and speaker box in front of the gate. It usually sounds something like this:

--buzz—

"Hello?"

"Hi, sir/ma'am, how are you? We're missionaries from the Church."

"Okay.."

"We're playing music today and we'd love to share a song with you and your family..."

"No I'm Catholic, I don't want any Mormon music. Bye."

It's so weird.

Love,

Sister Katie Lou Davis

P.S. I'm driving now, and these nutters drive on the left side! But I kind of like having the steering wheel on the right side of the car. So I think I'm going to become a mailman.

Feel free to email Katie at ZuluFiddle@...
