 Hi FiddleSticks Friends

We are mostly in the studio these days, but we have a fun show coming up, and it's part of a really fun event you don’t want to miss:

SPRING CITY:

Saturday, May 27: noon

    Spring City Historic Home Tour

    Lunch Music at the Bowery

    Old Spring City School

    100 East and Center Street

     Spring City, Utah

Spring City is a lovely, quiet, out of the way town that opens a window onto Pioneer Utah.  It contains an amazing wealth of historical pioneer era homes, gardens, and farms, and many of them will be open to the public for the Tour.  The whole town's recognized as a National Historic District and it’s becoming something of an artists’ colony with some nationally recognized painters, sculptors, potters, furniture makers and the like.

And musicians, too, of course, since FiddleSticks will be playing for the Lunch at the Bowery, with proceeds supporting local youth programs.  Plus there's a pottery and pioneer furniture sale at the Horseshow Mountain Studio.  Don't miss it!  Tickets go on sale at 9am, the houses are open 10 to 4, and we play at noon during lunch.

Directions: Spring City is about an hour south of Provo in Sanpete County in Central Utah, just off Highway 89, between Mt. Pleasant and Ephraim.

AMPERSAND UPDATE:

Our newest recording, Katie and Liz’s “Ampersand” is selling well, and has just made the jump to digital.  You can now download and enjoy it one-track-at-a-time from iTunes.com – as well as several other digital locations like Verizon Wireless, Napster, Jamlabel.com, etc.  Give it a try!  Plus Ampersand is now available at IndieRhythm.com as well as CDBaby.com and (of course) Deseretbook.com.

But the best place by far to order the CD is from us direct, either by mail or via our website: www.fiddle-sticks.com.  Why?  Because we’re still giving away FREE a second copy of the Ampersand disc with each jewel-cased CD you buy.  Just ask in the order and we’ll send you an extra copy for your car, your computer, your mom, whatever!

ABOUT KATIE IN AFRICA:

Hi Everybody:  Here I am in lovely Durban.  Anyway I really like my area a lot and I wouldn't mind staying here for a long time.  I have a feeling the nice companion I have now will be outta here next transfer and I'll get a comp I'll have to "learn to love."  Eish.  Oh, "eish" is South African for "ayayay" which is Spanish for "eish."

Well there's a flea market here every Saturday and we just did our first set-up-a-table-and-contact-people thingy.  I played fiddle.  It was hilarious.  People would get all excited by the music and stop and listen, then they'd come closer and closer.  But then they'd see the other missionaries and the books of Mormon, they'd turn around and book it in the other direction.  Funny.

Well, that's it for now.  Write me!

Love,

Katie Davis

UPDATE ON NEW CD PROJECT

Hey we’re in the studio again.  We’re doing another collection of folk hymns, kind of a loosely based sequel/prequel to our “Return to Nauvoo” CD.  This one’s called “Farewell to Nauvoo” and is going to be great.  We’re collaborating with our good friend Lisa Arrington to present some little known Mormon pioneer hymns and songs.   Stay tuned, it should be done in a few weeks!

FiddleSticks have seven recordings in print: The Sampler (1998), Playing Favorites (1999), Cold Fusion (2000), Time and Again (2001), the Cat and the Fiddle (2002), Return to Nauvoo (2004), and Ampersand (2006).

CDs are available at all performances, in Utah bookstores, online at www.fiddle-sticks.com, or by mail order ($15 for CDs, $5 for cassettes, plus $2 per order shipping and handling). Buy Ampersand during the month of May and get a second Ampersand disc for free -- just ask!

FiddleSticks is a family musical group that performs folk songs and traditional tunes from the Celtic lands, from England, and from America. The band is made up of three young sisters, Rebecca, Kathryn, and Elizabeth Davis, and their father Mark. Featured instruments include fiddle, flutes, cello, bodhran (Irish drum), guitar and vocals. (Check out our web page at www.fiddle-sticks.com)
