PRE-RELEASE NOTICE OF "FAREWELL TO NAUVOO"

Hi Friends!
It's mixed, mastered and at the printers.  The newest FiddleSticks CD is almost here -- and we are now taking advance orders, with extra bonuses for early birds!

The new CD is called "Farewell to Nauvoo."  It contains lots of great old music from the Mormon Pioneers -- but it's more than just Volume Two to our previous "Return to Nauvoo" CD.  For this album we teamed up with our friend and fellow musician Lisa Arrington.  In fact, about half the arrangements on this album appeared first on Lisa's 1992 solo recording Hidden Treasures. Lisa and the Davis family have been friends for many years and this long-awaited collaboration combines Lisa's vocals and imaginative piano arrangements with the eclectic FiddleSticks Celtic style.

The Album's subtitle "Hymns and Songs of the Mormon Pioneers."  The album has some great old Mormon hymns and songs as well as some lovely but largely forgotten old hymns of the time of the pioneers.  Not to mention a couple of new songs written by Katie and Liz, and some old-time instrumental tunes of the period just to liven things up.  (SEE THE COMPLETE TUNE LIST BELOW).  Of course, it's all done with the FiddleSticks fusion of old-time, Celtic, classical, and blugrass -- and in our humble opinion it sounds pretty nice.

And there's a really wonderful extra track: we found an archival recording of an actual pioneer singing the original Handcart Song.  As a young woman Margaret Young Boyle made the trek across the plains from Scotland, and when she was 97 she made this recording (way back in 1951).  Her amazing voice alone is reason enough to get the album!!

Of course, we'd love to send of dozens of pre-ordered CDs out as soon as they come off the press, so send in your orders now!  Pre-release orders get TWO extra benefits: first, free shipping (save $2) AND a free copy of the New TSSA Compilation CD, "Breeze," containing original music from a whole bunch of our friends from the Timpanogos Singer Songwriter Alliance, including a tune by FiddleSticks, of course.

HOW TO ORDER:

To order by mail send your check for $15 to FiddleSticks, 647 North 1280 East, Orem UT 84097 (800-969-7640). Or you can purchase with a credit card via PayPal (go to paypal.com, select "send money," and use email address order@... for the PayPal payee - be sure to say it's for "Farewell to Nauvoo.")  For orders before August 15, we’ll pay the postage AND we'll enclose a free copy of the new TSSA Compilation, called "Breeze"! (Of course, you can also order on our website at Fiddle-Sticks.com, at CDBaby.com, from Deseretbook.com, or in local bookstores –– but you can’t get our free shipping offer or the free "Breeze" CD from those sources!)

SISTER KATIE SAYS "HI!" FROM AFRICA

Hi Everybody: On Saturday we went to the Shongweni Farmer's Market to "special interest contact" which is missionary-lingo for "shop."  I bought some stickers from an Indian Apostolic couple.  The man who was selling them yelled at me for being a missionary because women are supposed to keep quiet and not teach/preach/talk in church according to the words of Paul.  I just nodded my head and didn't respond because I'm not allowed to teach/preach/talk to weirdos according to the words of Me.

Also at the Farmer's market I met a cool lady named Matheena who goes to India every year to hand pick cool stuff to sell at the market.  It was the most beautiful stuff ever: bright quilts and scarvs....beeeautiful.  I bought dangly earrings.

The work in Hillcrest has been slow and I've been slighly frustrated, but on Wednesday we had a very busy day with 6 appointments, 2 of which were non-members in member's homes.  Cool.

Also we got let in to teach a lesson while tracting for the first time this transfer.  Too bad though, because the guy that let us in was a complete nut.  He was 30-something, single, and I think he busted all his braincells doing his substitute religion: diving.  What you do to commune with God, according to him, is dive as deep as you can until you almost die, and then you come back up.  I think he has adrenaline mixed up with the Spirit.
I also got a French manicure this morning!  Now I have beautiful french-tipped nails which I will no longer be tempted to bite.  The reason we did it is 1. it was 20 rands which is nothing, and 2. the lady that does it is less-active.  "Fellowshipping" you know... it's what a missionary's got to do.

Love to all, from Katie D
