A little Olympic Culture comes to Auburn.

A high energy American folk and Celtic group of musicians made up of a dad
and his daughters are coming to Auburn this Monday as part of a series by
ArtLight. The ArtLight Concert/Art series includes a range of cultural
experiences; from musicians and filmmakers, to musicals-in-concert and (in
the future) the visual arts.

A non-profit organization to help independent artists, ArtLight was founded
by Dana Bishop Sanders of Alta. "It all started a year ago, when I was
pregnant with my fifth child and realized my energies weren’t going to be
able to go into performing my own music as much as I would like." says
Bishop Sanders . An Equity union stage actress and singer/songwriter, Dana
Bishop Sanders , her husband and five children moved here from Washington,
D.C. two years ago.

Fiddlesticks is a family musical group that will appeal to all ages. The
Davis family, playing cello, guitar, bodhran (Irish drum), and of course,
the fiddle, who were chosen as part of the Olympic Cutural Arts Festival for
the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

“Playing in the cold was not an issue when you realize that you’re at THE
OLYMPICS,” exclaims Mark Davis, the Dad. “Naturally, it was a thrill of a
lifetime to be part of such an historic event,” chimes in daughter
Elizabeth. Now the Davis family has been invited by ArtLight to perform
here at Placer High School. Bishop Sanders adds, “From the Gold Medal
events of Salt Lake to the Gold Country of Auburn., Fiddlesticks will
provide some real ‘toe-tapping’ music and beautiful ballads for everyone.”

“I’m excited that there is such a strong interest in the arts here in the
Auburn area, but I also wanted to see more groups and singers come here
that appealed to all ages,” says Bishop Sanders. “My goal is to bring new
and relatively unknown, but talented, artists to Auburn. Violinists,
pianists, even young filmmakers, that would appeal to grandparents and
grandchildren alike”

The performance by Fiddlesticks, will be held this Monday, May 20th at
Placer High School in Auburn at 7 p.m. The evening will also feature Dana
Bishop Sanders as a guest artist performing songs from her CD "Beyond These
Walls", an eclectic recording with music ranging from big band and jazz, to
Celtic ballads and pop. “A few of the songs I wrote for my album are perfect
for this concert,” says Bishop Sanders, who will also be bringing a violaist
and pianist for added back-up. She adds “Fiddlesticks has this wonderful
range of sounds and moods. It will be a delight to sing with them.”

For those who want to join in the fun, tickets are available for $10 at the
door. ArtLight is also introducing a family pass this May for $30 per event
as well as a 2002/2003 season ticket pass, good for nine concert/events for
30% off if purchased before June 1st. Events are held either at Placer High
School in Auburn or at Mesa Verde Performing Arts Center, on the campus of
Mesa Verde High School in Citrus Heights. At each concert there are two
drawings for free tickets to the next concert; one that any audience member
can win and another only for those who traveled over a half-hour to the
performance. Already people have made their way from the Bay Area, Chico and
Napa Valley.
