Robbie Burns and Sanpete County   Message List

Hi folks: Robbie Burns's Birthday Supper is here, plus a rare FiddleSticks
show in Sanpete County in Central Utah, plus the first T.I.C.S. Concert of
the new year.

SALT LAKE CITY
Friday, January 24, 6pm
Salt Lake Masonic Temple
650 E South Temple, SLC

Every year in January lovers of Scottish music, food, and poetry worldwide
commemorate the birth of Scotland's greatest poet, Robert Burns. The Utah
Scottish Association's annual Burns Birthday Supper takes place at the
Scottish Rite Temple this year. There will be music (by FiddleSticks, of
course), piping, hearty Scottish food (including the haggis, of course), and
lots of fine poetry and merriment. To make it an affordable event, this
year the supper is semi-potluck: bring your favorite side dish, salad or
dessert. The Association will provide the cutlery, the drinks, and of
course the Haggis! FiddleSticks will be performing favorite Robbie Burns
songs and other celtic tunes, and local scot-o-philes will hold forth with
recitations of Burns's poetry. Admission is only $5.

Come enjoy this wonderfully traditional evening, and wear your tartan!

EPHRAIM
Saturday, January 25, 7pm
Arts For Everyone Concert
Ephraim Co-op, First North and Main

FiddleSticks is very pleased to be performing in Ephraim, just down the road
apiece from our second home in Spring City. The Sanpete Chamber Music
Society presents monthly concerts at the historic Ephraim Co-op, and our
turn is coming up this January. We particularly hope our friends from
Sanpete (especially Gunnison, Manti, Ephraim, Spring City, and Mt Pleasant)
will come join in the fun. Tickets are $4 ($2 student/seniors), and a
family season pass to all the events in the series can be had for only $20
($10 students/seniors). We hope to see you there!!

For info contact Nadine Nibley, 435-283-4235.

OREM:
Wednesday, January 29, 7pm
Opening for Brian Joseph
Timpanogos Intimate Concert Series
647 North 1280 East, Orem

FiddleSticks will open for Brian Joseph, an eclectic actor/folk performer,
at the first TICS show of the new year. Joseph's a multi-instrumentalist
originally from Nebraska, now touring the world presenting his own unique
acoustic folk/jazz. His stage show is simultaneously fun and soulful,
combining extemporaneous songwriting, myriad forms of audience interaction
and humiliation, and his own intelligent, politically conscious urban-folk
sound, which falls
somewhere between Paul Simon, Randy Newman and Mose Allison For directions
or information see TICS' web page at http://come.to/timpanogos or call Boyd
Petersen at 375-4072). Tickets are $8 at the door.

Upcoming FiddleSticks Events:

March 8: Utah Celtic Festival, Fort Douglas Theater, U of U
March 14: Read Leaf Concert, Springville
March 17: Orem Library St Patrick's Concert

traditional tunes from the Celtic lands, from England, and from America.
This family Celtic band presents an energetic fusion of traditional music
with contemporary jazz and folk elements. FiddleSticks' energetic dance
reels, sultry love songs, plaintive ballads, and lively jigs played on
fiddle, cello, guitar, drum and hammer dulcimer are a favorite of local
audiences.
