Star Trek Filk Concert   Message List

Hello! My name is Eric L. Watts, and I have been the Director of
Star Trek Programming at Dragon*Con since 1993. Dragon*Con, held in
Atlanta, is America's largest annual convention for fans of science
fiction, fantasy and horror, comics and art, games and computers,
animation, science, music, television and films. For eight of the
last ten years, I have hosted a Star Trek-themed filk concert on my
programming track, called "TrekTrak." On one or more occasions, we
have been honored with performances by such notable filkers as Leslie
Fish, Tom Smith, Dave McConnell, Gary McGath and Gary Ehrlich, among
others.

I am once again planning to host a Star Trek filk concert at this
year's Dragon*Con, to be held at the Atlanta Hyatt Regency over Labor
Day weekend. I am looking to add new performers to this year's
TrekFilk. The only two conditions are that 1) each performer must
bring his or her own musical instrument(s), and 2) performers may
only perform filksongs inspired by the Star Trek franchise. (It is,
after all, a "TrekFilk.") The TrekFilk is a one-hour concert, so the
number of filksongs any one performer will be allowed to sing depends
on the number of performers confirmed to appear. Microphones and an
amp system will be provided; additional equipment requests will be
considered.

This invitation to perform does not include any type of compensation,
travel expenses or hotel accommodations. TrekTrak provides only this
opportunity to perform; all expenses are the responsibility of the
performer. Performers must agree to have their performance
videotaped and/or audio recorded by TrekTrak staff with no
stipulations. A complimentary convention membership (a $75 value)
will be offered to any established filk act who submits to TrekTrak
staff one copy of a marketed release of their recorded performances
before June 30, 2003. Non-recorded artists interested in performing
at the TrekFilk must purchase a convention membership at the
prevailing rate ($60 until July 15; $75 thereafter).

In addition to the TrekFilk, Dragon*Con also offers an entirely
separate track of programming devoted to filk of all genres. More
information about the filk track can be found on the Dragon*Con web
site (www.dragoncon.org). Also scheduled to appear on TrekTrak are
George Takei, Walter Koenig, J. G. Hertzler, Alice Krige, Susan
Sackett, Ann C. Crispin, Peter David and many more. More information
about TrekTrak can be found on the TrekTrak web site.

Anyone interested in performing at the TrekFilk at Dragon*Con over
Labor Day weekend is asked to contact me via email as soon as
possible. Thank you very much for your consideration, and I hope to
hear from you soon.

-- eric!
