The best sounding 'student' flutes I've come across over the years
are Trevor James', and I think you'll find something in their price
range which fits the bill. Make sure your daughter gets the chance to
try one first though - she may not agree with me, and there's no
substitute for trying as many different ones as you can get your
hands on... I've been known to say that if my flutes went under a
steam roller yesterday, and I had a Carnegie Hall recital tommorrow
and only $500,- in my pocket, I would do it on a TJ!
