Hey Flying Ace is back!! Great to hear from you Lynsey - So you're a
peri now - welcome to the big bad world!! What are you up to the rest
of the week?
It's always difficult establishing one's self. It takes a couple of
terms but then they stop being wary of you and resentful that you took
over from their teacher (Whether they liked or disliked the teacher -
kids don't like change) and then you start to see them blossom.
Keeping your tone light and not coming down on them too much ...
Saying things like I'm not going to nag you about practise because you
know what you should be doing. Talking of practise I sometimes use the
word training and relate it to their sport!
Clear statements about your expectations and what they might like to
get out of it! I am sure that you have thought of doing something they
like but still making sure it's prepared to your standards.
Anyway - good luck! I always found a good stock of (clean) jokes handy
too - they never laugh at them but you'll catch them telling their
friends in the lunch queue!
And keep in touch!!
