Hi Jyrki,
When you check on the status of the guitars, could you check for me as well. It's been since the beginning of the year and I haven't heard from Matti...I didn't know about his health problems, and I hope he returns to good health! I've always appreciated your emails and your time Jyrki. Thanks and hope to hear from you!

Thanks for the Post, Andreas.

I will have to go see Matti one of these days, to post some news
here. There are others who have had trouble getting Matti to deliver
guitars. Matti is very busy always, as the Finnish musicians keep him
occupied both with orders for new instruments and repairs and service
for their old instruments.

I know many large companies in the guitar business have tried to get
Matti to expand and to licence his designs for factory-made guitar
manufacturing. He has not wanted to do this and he has made sure the
guitars are all his personal work. Occasionally he has trainees and
other help from schools arund the area, but I guess this kind of help
needs more supervision than what is compensated by their ability to
do actual work. So this means the situation is a bit difficult.

In addition, they will demolish the building where his workshop is,
leaving him (and many established and start-up bands, some of which
have rehearsal space in the same building) high and dry with regard
to where to continue his work.

I will get bac to the matter in a couple of weeks, right now I am
quite busy with my job, and will be taveling quite a lot in the next
3 weeks.

Hi,
for more than two years I've been wondering about FGW guitars because
there are no updates on the website and I never received an answer to
the two e-mails I wrote.
So I finally found your yahoo-group.
Too bad to hear that Matti is having health problems. I really hope he
gets better.
I fell in love with his guitars whem I first saw them online about
seven years ago but I could never afford one back then. So I e-mailed
him last year about the prices of a Sound of Blues and shipping costs
to Germany. And about all the color and pickup and hardware options. I
would buy a Sound of Blues next year.
Hopefully Matti gets well. And once he's healthy again, maybe I can
think about a guitar from Finnland again.

Best regards,
Andreas

Dear Henry,

this place has been more or less a placeholder for the Flying Finn
guitars. Matti Nevalainen is a rare talent as a luthier, and recently
he has had a bit of health problems so he has cut back on production.
Moreover, his market is mostly here in Europe, and recently the Flying
Finn guitar supply has been very scarce in the USA.

There are continuing demands for Flying Finns all over the globe, and
Matti is on the brink of a burnout every now and then. I am lucky to be
living in the same town as he lives in, and I can go to Matti any time
I need to if I have any guitar-related needs, as long as he is working
and not on sick leave. Just now he is fitting my Am. Series Strat with
a custom neck.

The Flying Finns are at 1800 Euros on the used market at the moment. I
can broker one for you if you are comfortable with this price level.
The US dollar is at an all time slump right now, so it may not be the
best time to get one, I would advise to watch your presidential
elections ;-)

I am glad that there is some Flying Finn discussion finally on this
Group. Feel free to spread the word! And let me know if you have any
questions to Matti, or if you have a desperate craving for a guitar.
Everything has its price, like the guitar in the title page of this
Group. I am not selling at the moment unless someone offers a
ridiculous amount of money though!

Jyrki

Thanks for the props. By all means, send me the pics if uploading does not work. I had trouble putting up the pics as well, but finally got them there.

I got a new one from Matti Nevalainen just last week. It's a Flying
Finn Classic, sunburst with Texas Specials and a real snakeskin
pickguard (farmed python skin). Take a look in the photo section, and
the eye candy folder!

This one sounds great, especially the neck pickup is fabulous. I have
to look into the electronics a bit to see whether some tweaks are
needed, as the bridge tone pot does not  have much of an effect. There
are a few setup issues, I need to have this thing adjusted to my
preference, but no biggie.

The neck is so comfortable I could play all day...

Hi!

I started this group today after a visit to Matti Nevalainen's Custom
Shop here in Tampere, Finland. I hope people find it soon enough!
Welcome to join the discussion!
