Hi Chris
I’d just add this to what John has written – there’s
not currently a Folkopedia article on Jig Dolls, so if you have the capacity to
write one please get on and do it! Once the page has been started, other people
with knowledge of the subject (not me in this case) will hopefully come in and
expand it.
And once an article exists it can be signposted in various ways.
There’s a reference currently under Drama which says
It's difficult to place Jig Dolls
in the structure of Folkopedia but here in 'Drama' is as good a place as any
for the moment. They should warrant their own section at some point in the
future.
Hopefully you can now provide that separate section. Which will
mean that anyone searching the site for Jig Dolls will likely go straight to
your article. And at the bottom of the new page you can add one or more
Category tags, providing another way for people to arrive at the page.
all the best
Andy

Maybe there is a way of changing the Jig Doll reference on Folkopedia? Such as
putting it under 'street entertainment'?
Perhaps if you could put your modifications to my Wiki page onto Folkopedia
rather than Wiki itself? Too many edits get confusing.
Cheers - Chris B.
Hello Both,
Folkopedia discussion comes to life – thanks.
Although there’s been no discussion on this forum for ages (and not much
before that), Folkopedia itself has been slowly and steadily growing due to the
efforts of a small number of people. As I retired from academia six weeks ago,
I’m now in a position to get the project moving a little faster and have
started on a wish list which I intend to distribute between now and Christmas
in the hopes that we can get a lot of people doing small amounts of input to
fill in the gaps.
Chris, with reference to your question above, yes, the Jig Doll section on
Folkopedia can be discussed and developed.
Just a few observations on Folkopedia.
Folkopedia should be able to work hand in hand with Wikipedia providing links
back and forth. People have said to me, “If we have Wikipedia, why do we
need Folkopedia – don’t they do the same job?” Yes and no.
The value of Folkopedia is that it condenses information and pathways into a
more easily navigated and coherent interest groups of information. It can
reference Wikipedia and vice versa – Wikipedia can reference Folkopedia.
In some instances, Folkopedia provides more informed versions of Wikipedia
pages.
As Si mentions, there are protocols on Wikipedia which provide a barrier when
it comes to linking to resources and Folkopedia is partly about resourcing.
Another important difference between Folkopedia and Wikipedia is that the
former is set up to be peer reviewed and consequently, if working properly,
more use in academic study.
There are a lot of adjustments and refinements still to be made to Folkopedia
and there are empty sections which will be pruned in the very near future. When
this happens I’m hoping to end up with a leaner more meaningful project
which will start to show signs of sustainability.
All comments and observations welcome.
