The crowd parted, as he passed through the gates, everyone buzzing but making sure he had room to walk. And walk, he did. For the first time in years, he was able to use his legs without pain. He was in his prime again, and everyone knew what that meant.

So, they parted, to make room for him.

And though he didn't know where he was walking to, he knew perfectly well where he was going.

And, as he passed all his friends and family members, they all greeted him with whispers of "Great to see you again", "Glad you're here".

And he kept walking, as he smiled back at them.

And somewhere in the back of the crowd, one young man said to another, "What's going on up there?", and he was told, "I'm sorry, Mr. Ruffin, but God's new lead singer is here. Levi Stubbs has joined us."

And David Ruffin smiled and said, "No need to be sorry. I've just been holding his place for him, waiting for this day to come."

And Levi Stubbs took his rightful place.

And held it for no one.
