Hi Wilco,
Please check to see that the power supply you are using with the unit
has the following specs:
12 AC output (not DC), rated at 1amp (or 1000mA). If your power supply
is not outputing enough current it could cause problems with the tuning
and additional noise or distortion in the audio output.
From your description, I'm assuming you have one of the earlier units.
These units had a distortion stage with a much higher gain output, and
yes it will increase the overall output of the sound.
Some of these early units are now nearly four years old, so if you find
the power supply is outputing the correct current, your unit may just
need retuned.
We had released an analog board revision for units with a serial number
200 and up which improved several of the 777's circuits. There are
several simple modifications which you can do to help improve the
earlier 777's performance as well. The power supply cap (big blue
capacitor near the power supply jack) in the early units was 1000uF/16V,
this capacitor can/should be increase to something like 2200uF/16V. You
will need to open the unit up to get an idea of the size this
replacement cap should be, as some of the higher value caps become
larger in size.
If you need to retune the machine, please check the list archives as I
believe this information has already been submitted to the list.
As far as the audible clicking, again if you find the power supply you
are using is correct there are several things you can do. Please note
you should judge this clicking when the distortion levels and amplifier
accent levels are turned down, as these settings can clip the signal
before the output, and this may be what you are hearing.
Inside the unit there is a trimmer near the accent controls which sets
the amplifiers offset. If this control is not adjusted properly you will
hear clicking from the DC offset of the amplifier. Simply play a
repeated note by the sequencer and adjust this control for the quietest
operation.
If you find any of these things do not fix your problem, please contact
us directly and we'll help troubleshoot your problem.

model, OS 2. It looks absolutely fab! It sounds cool, de sequencer is great etc
etc.... Quite happy with it.

thought it had someting to do with the power-supply. I was correct. The guy who
sold me the FR777 used one that wasn't powerful enough. So a bought another one,
which was really hard, cause the specs are not really 'european' I guess. ;-)

the tuning will only be correct for about two octaves. That goes for all osc's,
even when it's warmed up for over 30 min. So I think it might need some
calibration???

knob is quite 'enthousiastic', I have to turn down the main volume by 75% when
throwing in some overdrive. Is this normal?
>About the noise. There is a clear audible noise and a kind of 'clicking' when
playing the 777 with overdrive turned down/off and filter 0-50% open. It's realy
annoying, making the 777 almost useless for 'plain clean and simple' sounds. Any
ideas?
