Anybody know whether there is any significance to
the tracks in FBatC's first self-titled release
appearing in alphabetical order? <br><br>I thought it might
be a symbolic way of introducing Frankie's new,
efficient recording philosophy (Live 2-Track, Few Takes,
Few Edits).<br><br>Another wild hypothesis is they
just wanted to do it that way.<br><br>Wurd.

Uh, does anyone know anything more about this
song? I snagged a live copy from Biggaloof way back
when. Uh, is this an original? cover? B-side? tab? I
don't know, it's probably my favorite song at this
exact moment. Uh- I can't wait to see more- Only the
best.

I think you're pretty much right, I remember
reading that Frank always thought one of the hardest
things about making an album was sequencing the tracks,
so he wanted a break from it. But it's weird,
because clearly the right opening track is "All My
Ghosts" and "The Man Who Was Too Loud" is the obvious
closer..so somehow it worked out. <br><br>Hey i just got
Oddballs (at newberry comics as an import, i was psyched,
no annoying internet business) But anyways, did
anyone notice how all the songs are remixed to sound
like the Catholics? I have some of the original
versions, and the songs that are b-sides off Teenager of
the Year have most of their synths removed and are
given a more bare bones drum sound, as are all the
tunes. Also, about half the songs on the album are Cult
of Ray outtakes, which is great, but just goes to
show what a great album Cult of Ray could have been if
it were allowed to have more songs like
"Announcement" on it to give it more depth. However, I still
disagree with the packaging. I think Frank should release
a 3 album collection of oddballs chronologically.
The first one could have his Frank Black/Teenager of
the Year/Cult of Ray outtakes...like solo Frank
Oddballs. The second could have the slew of b-sides from
the first Catholics albums and Valley of OUr Hope
from Pistolero, along with the many compilation tracks
he's contributed to tribute albums and such. The third
one could have Sunday Sunny Mill Valley Groove day,
plus 21 Reasons and Better Pray for the Girls...i have
all these songs burned on cd, and i assure you, i
have two 55 minute cds of studio Frank raraties not
including those included on Oddballs, so it could work.
Perhaps a boxed set? With a 4rth disc live album? Or am i
just dreaming?

Unfortunately, Frank just doesn't have this kind
of popularity. It is especially annoying since
Pixies junk like Theme from Narc and endless recuts of
Pixies songs get to be best sellers, while infinitely
better Frank Black B-Sides (Vally of Our Hope, The Pan
American Highway, Oddballs, etc), will be sentenced for
obscurity forever. <br><br>As for 21 Reasons, I think it's
a killer track (I have a song called 95 Reasons,
but it wasn't inspired by Frank Black and the
Catholics, but by the anti-Catholic Martin Luther), it even
returns to Pixiesesque song material with the Manta-Ray
reference. I do hope it'll appear on the next FB record.

you're right, the opening and closing tracks on
FB and C are perfect..<br><br>the alphabetization
thing is nothing new for Frank though, as I'm sure many
of you know. he used to arrange his pixies sets (not
always of course) in alphabetical order. <br><br>i never
noticed that about The Catholics debut album though.

I recently got hold of some pixies vinyls and I
was wondering whether I have found something
good:<br>I have the 12" Gigantic <br>12" Alec Eiffel<br>and
7" Down to the well from the John Peel sessions it
has Down to the well, Into the White and Wave of
mutilation. I know thats a bootleg, I was just wondering if I
have been ripped off or not? I payed £15 for the 3.

You're right, I guess the proper way to phrase that claim would be to say it's
the only song that's been recorded that I haven't heard. Maybe. Thanks for the
tip though. I'll check it out.

This is from Mac Burrus of Self, he posted the
below to Self's website
<a href=http://www.selfmusic.net
target=new>http://www.selfmusic.net</a><br><br><br>There will be a place where I
can rant on crap like
this at some other place on the new site, but allow me
now to say this....Last night I went to see Jon Brion
@ the Roxy, where I work. He didn't show. No big
deal. I heard he was "stuck in England".I guess his
foot got caught in one of those metal traps, set for
really talented musicains. No matter. The problem I had
was with the crowd. See, Frank Black stood in for Jon
Brion and performed five songs. The crowd had no idea
who he was. It was a packed crowd. Full of people who
were there to see John Mayer, John Doe, StarSailor ,
Charlotte Martin, and maybe Jon Brion, but the crowd didn't
respond to Frank Black at all. He started out with the
greatest song about a family of shrimp I had ever heard,
and then dove into some of his more well known
songs...The crowd was talking over him like he was a bad
comedian....Now... I don't care if you never got into the Pixies or
Frank Black for that matter. If you are at a benefit
show and are going to give your respect and attention
to these up and coming songwriters, then you had
better give a damn enough to shut up and pay your
respects to someone who has been entertaining people far
longer than anyone else on stage that night. I was so
upset and let down by the audience. I feel I am
preaching to the choir...but I had to say something...Sorry
Frank. I guess you SHOULD have bobbed your head more
instead of bobbing mine.<br><br>Thomas<br>'our love is

I can't agree with your sentiments more. Nothing
annoys me more than when people talk with their mates
through entire concerts, not just the support acts (which
is slightly understandable but shows a complete lack
of respect), but also the main act. Why do they
bother turning up!? They might as well just go to a pub
or something.<br><br>Andy B

The gentleman who wrote this has my sympathy.. I
would have been soo angry too.. BTW can someone tell me
who the f&^k is Jon Brion?? I wish I had been one of
these lucky idiots who got to see Frank "by mistake". I
dont think he is coming to St. Louis MO. anymore and I
dont blame him (the last few I was at and the venue's
sucked.. no air in the summer.. etc) though I do hope and
pray he will come back some day. I think popularity
can be a good thing and I really wish someone like
Frank was better rewarded monetarily for the beauty and
emotion he pours out for us with each CD.. I love ya
FRANK! And I did get to see him up close.. he walked
right past.. brushed arms with me at a show in St louis
and every nerve in my being wanted to say.. "Hey
Frank.. Thank you for all of it!" but he looked very
determined on getting to the bar and didn't want to be
disturbed (it appeared) I'm done for now.. Happy Sunday and
Holidays and all that you wonderful Frank

What a strange feeling it must have been to be
there. FB&C probably just felt like getting out and
trying a few new things in public. They don't need
popularity, popularity needs FB&C. I do not hesitate to say
he is the best, he speaks the voice of my
inspiration. I feel guilty for being forever indebted to an
almost complete stranger, but I relentlessly want more.

Sounds like a bargain 2 me. I've got some Pixies
stuff on vinyl 2. "Planet Of Sound" on 12", "Dig For
Fire" on 7", "Velouria" on 7" and "Bossanova" on 12". I
don't think I paid over £12 for the lot! My mate also
got "Surfer Rosa" on 12" for £6.
