Commonalities in Steamroller music   Message List

Kind of a silly topic, maybe, but it's a change from
rating songs.
I was wondering what commonalities you've noticed
across several Steamroller songs. For instance,
there's a relationship between:

1. Goodwill Games Theme
2. Chakra III
3 Joy To The World

in that all three compositions use the same chord
progression.

Another obvious example would be all the songs that
use the "Going To Another Place" theme. (obviously
it's used a lot on Fresh Aire II, but it also creeps
into "Go The Distance," "Rudolph," and in an inverted
form in "Return To The Earth," to name just a few.

Then there's "Sara's Band," from Fresh Aire 1, which
reappears on Fresh Aire IV under the name "Embers,"
only played a lot slower, but with an identical
melody. And, of course, it then appears again at the
end of the "Stille Nacht" arrangement on "Christmas."

So, anyone notice any other recurring themes like
this?

Yes, I've noticed the "musical signature" from FRESH AIRE II used a bit, you might also notice the use of extended final cadences at the ends of pieces using a...

Yeah, lots of commonalities. One of my favorites was Chip's use of the FA II theme in his arrangement of Classical Gas that he did for Mason Williams. It's...

Nice to know I'm not the only one who over analyses Steamroller's music! As for the endings of songs, I've noticed Chip sometimes has a tendency not to resolve...
