I,
Steve Wallis, am going to be in a band called
Galaxia. All money that the band makes will be distributed to good causes (i.e. left-wing campaigns, socialist and autonomous organisations or charities - particularly those which campaign as well as raise money, such as those in the
Make Poverty History coalition) except for expenses and band members' wages (the rate is to be decided but we will receive a workers' wage).
The Galaxia Foundation for the World Socialist Revolution will democratically decide how to distribute the proceeds from CD, video and T-shirt sales, gigs (except those which are benefits for particular organisations), etc.
The main way of distributing our music will be by making it available for download free of charge on the internet. We will make it copyleft, as used by the GNU Free Software Foundation, to encourage not-for-profit copying. We will give away free CDs as well as trying to get them in shops (FOPP, Music Zone and Borders will be most likely to stock them).
We will put copies on the (yet to be set-up) Galaxia website, www.galaxiamusic.org, as well as other websites and free file-sharing sites on the internet.
I am writing a song called The Revolution Starts Now!, which will be one song we will record before the G8 summit, during which I am proposing a worldwide general strike.
I have also written new lyrics for Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?", to yield Do They Know It's G8 Time?
