From: John Knight - Organiser The Eddie Cochran Weekender, Chippenham
It is with regret that I have to announce that this year's Eddie Cochran
Weekender due to be held from 16th - 18th September has been postponed.
This year was another special event for Eddie Cochran fans as it marked 45
years since Eddie was killed in Chippenham on 16th April 1960. Despite the
financial problems that arose from last year's 10th Anniversary event, I
was determined the carry on with the Eddie Cochran event in Chippenham this
year with the hope of raising funds to pay creditors who lost money last
year and to show my gratitude to the fans who have continued to support the
event year after year. Everything was in place for the event to go ahead
with an impressive line up of International artistes booked to perform over
the 3 days however up to now requests for tickets has been so low that I
cannot afford to secure the venue (The Olympiad). It may well be that recent
comments made to various newspapers and BBC Wiltshire voicing concerns
may have put people off from applying for tickets fearing that I would
cancel
at a later date, also the fact that I have been away from Chippenham
recently
dealing with urgent family matters has not helped.
I am very proud to be the organiser of the Eddie Cochran Weekender and have
every intention of keeping the event going. It may be possible to have a
smaller 45th Memorial tribute gig in Chippenham later this year, but if not
then there is plenty of time to bounce back in September 2006.
I send my sincere apologies to anyone who has been inconvenienced by the
postponement of the event.
John Knight
