It's Raining Men on American Idol Temenos Entertainment
'It's Raining Men' found it's way onto American Idol last week for the second
time, in Fox show that has a long and winding gay sub-text.

Idol contestant Kim Locke did an admirable job performing the classic. When the
time came to critique her performance, however, the notoriously critical Simon
Cowell was more interested in commenting on host Ryan Seacrest. Cowell commented
that the gay camp classic was one of Ryan's favorite songs.

The Marsha Wash song was also performed by American Idol winner Kelli Clarkson
in the first season of the show.

Ryan Seacrest, not to be outdone, commented on a show later that week, that
Simon's favorite song was 'YMCA', a song he first heard at a bar called the
'Manhole'.

Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest are not the only American Idol regulars whose
sexual orientation has been a subject of discussion. American Idol fans
discovered the online journal of Jim Verraros, one of the top 10 finalists from
the first season, and put the pieces together. Verraros came out last December
in an Advocate Magazine interview.

While Jim Verraros is the only 'American Idol' to come out of the closet, he
joins Will Young, the openly gay winner of the Brittish version of the show 'Pop
Idol'. Young came out shortly after releasing his first single in the UK.

This season contestant Clay Aiken has been the subject of much speculation.
While Aiken's hometown newspaper ran a story about him with the headline 'Female
fans achin' for Aiken', male fans have also been posting on American Idol
message boards around the net wanting to find out more about this top ten
finalist.

If Clay or any of the current American Idol contestants are in fact gay, it is
unlikely we will find out any time soon. Both Jim Verraros and Will Young came
out months after their respective Idol shows ended.
