Royal News George Michael buys Princess Diana's controversial portrait
September 1, 2005, 1:25:58 A controversial portrait of Britain's
Princess Diana has been bought by pop star George Michael for £25,000.
The painting, by artist Stella Vine, shows the late princess wearing an
evening gown and has the words "Murdered? Pregnant? Embalmed?" painted
in the background.
Vine said: "I was inspired to paint it after reading Diana's body was
embalmed, destroying any possible evidence she may have been pregnant."
Michael bought the painting after seeing it on the artist's website.
The 41-year-old singer was a friend of the princess and headlined 'A
Concert For Hope', which Diana had organised in 1995 to raise money for
AIDS charities. Diana and her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, were killed in a
car crash two years later.
