Re: [georgia-satellites] GIG REPORTS

Dudley last night. Pleasingly, there was a much better crowd than Dan's
previous visits to JBs, although it still wasn't packed - as usual, many people
stood at the back. Spike and [insert guitarist's name here] from the Quireboys
did an acoustic set beforehand, plus another guitarist who my Quireboys expert
couldn't identify. Ken came on and played acoustic slide on Hey You, and then
Keith, Mauro and Dan joined them for a Frankie Miller number.

Dan and co then kicked off their set with It Comes To Me Naturally. The set
list was much the same as Monday, minor variations including the return of Pills
to the middle section of Sheila (I think they did Gloria on Monday - did they
also include Gimme Some Lovin' in Railroad Steel that night?). Dan has also
started taking a wailing solo on the end of Nights Of Mystery; I have to say
that on Monday I thought he was on fire with that section, a wonderful surprise!
There was also an interesting moment when Dan and Keith played each other's
guitars - while the other was still wearing it! If anyone ever saw the
guitarists from The Hoax do something similar, it wasn't quite as polished as
that, possibly because it was completely spontaneous, but at one point they
looked like the only conjoined twins in rock'n'roll!

At the end Spike and co came back on for Like A Rolling Stone, which Spike
clearly didn't know, and he tried to make up for it by displaying the only
rock'n'roll credentials he possesses: waving a bottle of Jack around and
surprising everybody onstage by proposing a "blues jam" (the last refuge of the
congenitally untalented). OK, OK, I've never liked the Quireboys, so shoot me,
and I have to give Spike credit where it's due: he did the bar staff a favour by
clearing the venue for them in record time.

Cheers

Phil
