Subject: [globaldeeelitefans] Hello!
It's a pleasure to be a member of this group! I've been lurking for
the past few months and decided maybe it's time to introduce myself.
I'm Nikki, I'm 24 years old, and am from South Jersey (hometown of
Philly). I have been a Deee-Lite fan since last summer and how I came
to know of them is a bit of an unusual story. I always knew the song
"Groove is in the Heart" growing up and it was always one of those
songs that I never was particurlarly a big fan of, but still enjoyed
listening to whenever I heard it. Never really knew who sang it or
anything.
But then one day last year in April, I was watching a show called
Survival of the Fastest (I had a brief interest in auto racing) and
one of the crew chiefs mentioned Deee-Lite and then started to sing
(rather horribly) "Groove is in the Heart". And then I saw it again in
July and I decided to download the song and there was just something
after the first few
times of listening to it, that made me want to
know more about this band. SO I decided to do some research on them
and was surprised to find out what they were like- very much into
politics and environmental issues and that was it- I fell in love with
the band. And the first time I ever saw a picture of Lady Miss Kier, I
was speechless because I had never seen someone so beautiful in my
life. And as more time went on I learned more about the band and liked
them more and more. A few weeks after I decided to research them, I
found the Vh-1 One Hit Wonders countdown on and spent the entire night
waiting for them to come on (they deserved higher than number 14!) and
decided right then and there that I need to get to know more of their
music. I can't even tell you how long and how many stores I went to
(I'm not big on ordering off of the internet) to obtain a copy of "the
Very Best of" and then finally find it in, of
all places, a Borders
bookstore.
And although it happened years ago, when I read that Lady Miss Kier
and Dmitry had dated and then broke up, I got filled up. They were
such a sweet couple. I feel bad that it didn't work out for them.
Getting to know Deee-Lite has honestly had a big impact on my life. It
makes me sad that I wasn't old enough to know who they were when they
were popular. But I guess it's better late than never, right?
Again, thanks for accepting me into this group.
Love, Nikki
PS: Has anyone ever seen the student film that Lady Miss Kier was in?
I think it was filmed in 1988 and Dmitry and she wrote the music for
it. I have the link for it through Youtube but I wasn't sure what the
rules were about posting links, plus it's only viewable if you are
over 18 and have a Youtube account (it has a brief nudity scene).
