thankx for the links Greg!
I just got the first solo CD by Italian rapper ARDUZ'.
Unlike other European rappers, he went from rapping
exclusively in Italian to rapping in English, Spanish
and Italian.
Anyone remember Akhenaton rapping in English on IAM's
first album? Those were the days... now you can hardly
hear any non-native speakers from Europe rap in
English, apart from Scandinavian emcees such as Promoe
(Loop Troop) and $tr8''Outta Control'' (MKS).
In any case, ARDUZ'' solo effort, "Son Italiano" (=
Italian Sound in Spanish, but in Italian 'sono
italiano' is = I'm Italian and is often abbreviated to
son italiano; I'm not sure whether that's a
coincidence), is a very interesting Italian take on
Chicano rap. Musically you can't argue with LA
MONPHE's beats, Arduz' may have an Italian accent when
he's rapping in English but I spose that's the way
it's gotta be!
$tr8 ''Outta Control'', however, is mostly inspired by
Mid-western and southern rappers such as Bone Thugs,
Twista, and CunninLynguists, and of course the west
coast's own Tupac. His debut solo album on German
label King Ov Kingz Recorz (founded by Psycomatic,
German underground emcee, producer, and
self-proclaimed underground legend), "Unleash the
Beast", is commin hard with hardcore beats, both more
mid-western and more boom-bap in style. There's even a
track that uses otis redding's hard to handle,
popularised by Marley Marl's THE SYMPHONY, loads of
classical stuff, even some ragga influences.
Check those guys out, they're all on myspace...!
