BLACK TIGER, CHAKAL   Message List

Politically, today is a sad day for my native Switzerland, I'd rather
not talk about it to be honest...!

Still, at least there's tonnes of brilliant homegrown hip hop around.
Black Tiger was the first emcee from the German-speaking part of
Switzerland to drop rhymes in his native language. His new cd, BETON
MELANCHOLIE (concrete melancholy), features many emcees, from
Turkish-Swiss crew Makale to Italian-Swiss MC Zako. All in all, like
his solo debut, a very good album, with mostly boom-bap style
production, but also some more club-style beats. Producers include DEF
CUT, who already produced whole albums for both Spooman and Zako, Sad,
and Jakebeatz. Lyrically, Black Tiger as usually drops loads of
conscious rhymes, also reflecting his afro-spanish-swiss heritage.

And now... my favorite CD from the French-speaking part of Switzerland
since Double Pact's first full-length CD. CHAKAL, a Venezuelan-Swiss
MC, bilingual (or even trilingual, according to the book LA WELSCH
MUSIC, a book about musicians from chansons to hip hop from ROMANDIE,
as the French-speaking part of Switzerland is called), drops dope
rhymes on his solo debut PA' MI GENTE (before that he was part of rap
duo LOS DE LA SALSA), and the beats are BANGIN. He even teamed up with
US emcees for his second effort CHAKAL & CO with US emcees such as
RAEKWON, JUJU, Havoc, and M1 (dead prez). Switzerland's dopest, no
doubt about that.
