Sorry for my bummer post re: John Duncan.
still, probably not as big of a "bummer" as actually hearing "Gain".
That was the first time I've ever felt disgusted by a recording, and
I had to shut it off before it was even over.
I haven't been able to bring myself to listen to it again.
When I first got into noise, in the early 90s, a friend suggested I
check out John Duncan.
I bought a CD that turned out to be good low-fi junk-noise /
industrial / collage.
Last fall there was a John Duncan installation at Diapason Gallery in
NYC.
In the big room was a surround-sound piece of howling, droning
electronics and noise, set in complete darkness.
In the smaller room was a different work...subtle bass tones that
rumbled and purred, and moved about the room.
This installation was great.
I had heard of there being "sexual content" in Duncan's work, but
yeah...this "Gain" tape was my first exposure to that.
No need for more.
