Call to Artists
Calling all artists, on December 31, 2009, the Council Bluffs community will
join together for the third annual First Night® celebration of art and culture.
Performing artists from across the region are encouraged to submit applications
to participate in this unique evening.
First Night® is an international event with a 35-year history of celebrations
taking place all over the United States, Canada, and New Zealand. It is a
family-friendly, alcohol free, public festival that brings together the entire
community to usher out the old and rejoice in the first night of the New Year.
Council Bluffs is the only community in Iowa or Nebraska to participate in this
one of a kind festival of artists, performers and vendors united in celebration
of art, creativity and culture. All First Night Council Bluffs activities take
place downtown in Bayliss Park and the surrounding areas. Dozens of
performances are staged simultaneously in non traditional venues ranging from
churches and museums to City Hall. While attendees move from venue to venue,
each performer will be scheduled several 30-40 minute time slots in which to
perform, all within the same location (except for identified roving artists).
This is an exceptional opportunity for artists and performers to reach new
audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
First Night Council Bluffs pays all chosen artists for their work. Artist
selection is based primarily on artistic merit with special attention to
uniqueness, feasibility, affordability and programmatic balance.
Applications must be received by June 1st to be eligible. Press kits and media
(cd, dvd, photo) is appreciated. Previous First Night Council Bluffs artists
must complete and update the application to be reconsidered. All materials
submitted become the property of First Night Council Bluffs and will be returned
only by special arrangement.
