Tom Keylock .. definitely a heavyweight, though Frank Thorogood seems to have
been the villain of the piece here. I think I've read all the books on Brian
except Who Killed Cock Robin, which is pretty hard to get these days. Blown Away
is definitely the one to get, brilliantly written and very well researched.
Paint It Black is also fascinating, though there's just a sense that the
'interview' sequence is a piece of clever fakery .. There's pressure growing on
the police to reopen the investigation - maybe the movie will help push them
into it ..
You ask if I've ever seen the Stones .. well, the answer is yes. Just the once,
at their famous Hyde Park bash. I hitch-hiked up the day before with my
girlfriend of the time, and we slept out overnight by the Serpentine. There was
an amazing atmosphere. Lots of 'freaks' doing the same thing. Fires. Guitars. A
little shared booze and dope, but nothing heavy. We headed across to the concert
area around 11 am and got a prime spot about 30 yards back from the stage. Now,
I've seen the movie, and believe me, it captures nothing of the incredible vibe
of that day. They may well have played out of tune, but that didn't come across
at all. What hit you was the amazing energy and presence of the band - even
without Brian. Some bands just have that 'magic', and at that time, the Stones
definitely did. What they must have been like with Brian on stage, I can only
imagine. Must have been truly incredible ..
The opening bit, by the way, with Mick reading the Keats poem, was incredibly
moving. And, no, nobody noticed that half the butterflies were dead. There were
enough to make quite an impact ..
Amazing stuff. Whatever happened to those beautiful times ..??
Enough nostalgia already ..!
Stay groovy.
Rob

Dear Rob:
Hi! Yes I have seen articles and pictures about this
new movie The Wild and Wycked World of Brian Jones. I
understand it is to be released at the Cannes Film
Festival
in May of this year. I have never heard Stephen
Woolley
talk, I just hope his Brian biopic is a success. Did
you know
Tom Keylock was on hand as a consultant? He was
always
a menancing, manelovent character who had usually been
up to no good, at least that has been my impression of
him.
But I could be mistaken.
Have you read any books on Brian Jones? I have both of
Bill Wyman's books, Anna Wohlin's story ( I like her)
and
Laura Jackson's book, Alan Crayson, and other books
just
about the Stones as a group. What interests me about
Brian
is when he purchased Cotchford Farm, started to get
well,
and began creating a new life for himself until his
untimely
demise thanks to Frank Thorogood and his band of
demonic
henchmen.
So what other Brian groups do you belong to? Have you
ever seen the Rolling Stones in concert? I live in St
Louis
Missouri and they come here whenever they are on tour,
but cannot get tickets because they sell out
immediately.
Brian came here in 1966 but I did not have a car at
that time
and I was still in high school.
Well that this time it has been goovey talking to you,
everything is outa sight and far out and wish you
peace in
the UK.
Take care
Linda
