I would love to hear something from the new band, they have been
together as long as the original line -up.Here we are 7 years later
still talking about their Debut release.A first time release of Shea
material and where is the band to tour and promote it? Is Don kicking
down doors to get it out there while he slings sticks with Segar? I
would love to hear some new material from the rest of the guys in the
nGFR, they are good musicians and i'm sure they would rock the socks
off any tracks they played on . When do we get to hear them do that?

Sure it could. I'd bet most people wouldn't know the difference.
The problem is that the outside members are too busy putting out solo
stuff to do anything creative for GFR. I think that GFR is just a steady
paycheck to Max, Bruuuuuce and Tim.

Intersted to hear what they would sound like and it is way overdue... Without
Mark, I guess it would be a waste time and money. Good Point...

Why not put out a new cd in 2008 on the GFR web site. 6 years together
as GFR 2000 they should have songs or demos they can produce new
stuff. Donnie can put his extra money from Bob Seger Tour to make it
happen. 5000 dollars a pop or more from Bob and 30 dates = 150,000 or
200,000 He has extra change laying around.

FUNKIN' OUT WITH THE GRAND FUNKER

Wednesday, Dec 6th, 2006

Last Friday Night we were the first band to perform at the Lone Star
Bike
Rally Rock Concert held at Fort Travis Park on the Bolivar Peninsula.
The
Bolivar Peninsula is located across the bay from the City of
Galveston. In
normal circumstances, it is just a twenty minute Ferry ride across
the bay.
On this particular weekend, we were told that there was a two-hour
wait to
get on the Ferry from Galveston.

The two hour waiting line to get on the Ferry and the ice cold wind
blowing
in off the Gulf of Mexico kept the crowd at the concert to a minimum.
However, the couple of hundred people who made it across in time
enjoyed a
what can be referred to as a private concert by one of the all time
Rock 'n
Roll Legends, Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad fame.

We kicked off the show at 8pm. Mark Farner followed us hitting the
stage at
10pm.

The show went great! Apple Sound brought out the big guns for this
event
and their sound was fantastic! Their big, stadium rock concert sound
system
had us blastin' all the way across the saltgrass marshlands to
Beaumont!

I have received numerous emails asking me what it was like opening
for Mark
Farner. Truthfully, I was expecting him and his entourage to give us
the
usual holier than thou superstar, bullschitt attitude. I was
pleasantly
surprised when Mark Farner, his band and crew turned out to be among
the
nicest and most professionally courteous people we have ever
encountered in
the music industry.

Mark was a real cool guy who honored us by posing for pictures with
the Die
Hards. Mark's wife, Lisa and road manager Liz Miles (both a couple of
sweethearts) hung out with us back stage during the course of the
event. We
all shared road stories and joked around like it was old home week.
See the
photos here: http://www.genekelton.com/photos/thumbnails.php?album=16

Mark Farner's band is "supa-tight"! Probably the most dynamic, well
rehearsed group of musicians I have ever seen. They kicked a*ss and
had the
crowd rockin' and singing along. Especially when he played some of the
Grand Funk hits! And yes... Mark still has "the voice"! Even better
than on
the old Grand Funk LPs. Probably the finest rock 'n roll voice in rock
music history! Clear, soulful and nailing every note! Stop by Mark's
website at http://www.markfarner.com and say hello. Tell 'em Mean Gene
sent ya!

Chester's Harley Davidson

Saturday, Oct 28th, 2006

IT WAS A GREAT NIGHT!
Chester's Harley Davidson in Mesa AZ., what a place. Bikes galore and
some of the finest people we have met. We were amazed at how all the
employees seemed to have a genuine love for their jobs. All the folks
that worked the Mark Farner show were also great to work with. One of
the best gigs we have done all year!! When you get to Mesa AZ. be sure
and stop by and tell them we said hi!

The show was fantastic, as usual. The crowd loved it. Mark and the band
signed a lot of autographs that night.

Too bad that the band once quoted as being the "only American
supergroup"of the 70s'has taken this road to history.I hope if nothing
else, they at least get back to being friends.Anyone know how well the
DVD/CD release is doing in sales?

Good to hear from you Rick. Points well taken! One correction in mind. We are
not fighting for Freedom in Iraq. It is for Oil... I wish Bush would be honest
and say we are their for National Security. It's the Oil Stupied... Not
directing it at you. I was preaching out of anger. Anyway, GFR, 10 years ago
things were clicking and partying along. Then Bam, Bam. The Train Derailment...
Time away does heal the disapointment of what may have been a sweet come back.
Mark's new cd does have traces of that GFR sound. Don and Mel, Nothing came out
new on cd. Lawsuits and end of friendships, split in the fan base to were most
of us have moved on with Life. What a Shame... Take Care. Buddhabear, jbfranke

Times are tuff in my case my health insurance has sucked since the
Clinton administration. And guess what my bro was laid off a 6 figure
job during the Clinton administration in the defense industry. And
guess what that was before the Iraq war; I guess I should blame
Clinton, I blame the lawyers more so for the healthcare problems. The
Layoffs were part of the peace dividend. But Don't worry about your
health care wait till Hill gets in and we can have socialists health
care (for 2-3 years before WW 3) I hear that works great, a little
sarcasm there seems to me with all our problems we still come up with
most of the new medical procedures and medicines in the good old USA.
Let me say this to prove a point. Its funny the 8 million jobs
created during Reagan sucked, the 5 million during daddy bush sucked.
the and 7 million now suck but the 8 million during Clinton it is
said were great jobs, hmmm what happened to those jobs oh yea they
went away in 2000 when the stock market crashed. Truth is the jobs
were all so so. We are not an industrial nation anymore. We can all
play this game but let face it, If a democrat was running this war
most of the media would be for it; lets take the example of WW 2 we
lost over 500,000 men (over 1000000 wounded), made mistake after
mistake, but the press covered it all up for FDR and we stuck too it
and won, we did what it takes to win we nuked japan, we also
firebombed 26 other Japanese cities and did the same to Germany with
he firebombing (we were luckily Hitler spit his forces and also that
the Germans were running out of fuel). I do not think we can ever win
a war again at least with a republican president, because 90% of the
Democrats decide to undetermined the effort. I think most republicans
will support a war with a democrat president, But I could be wrong,
maybe the next time democrat leads us in war I will find out with
the enemy is saying and say the same things hear, like the democrats
do quoting the terrorists now, NO I WON'T, I LOVE this country, even
if the opposite party is running it. I will always pull for Us to win
a war. I could never use a war politically like the sharptons, deans,
moore (become rich doing it), Move on etc., are doing. BUT we will
find out soon enough. ; because the press is against US. Wether we
are for or against the war pick it we can never win again. One thing
I would say to BSUH take 20% of Iraq's oil to pay for the war. Back
out of the triangle and let them kill each other. Secure the border
so Iran does not invade. Protect the OIL. And make a buffer between
the Kurds and the Sunni and Shiites. Let em kill each other till they
get sick of it or there is a victor. That would be my advice. I am
hoping for a democrat president preference is Hillary because we
might as well have a democrat in when WW 3 starts. We have a better
chance to fight it that way, because the republicans will fall in
line and support the war. I am not sure about the independents they
are live a ship tossed about on the sea, the press will have to side
with the president at that time, cover up the mistakes etc., in order
for us to have a chance. I don't know what any of this has to do with
GFR, So I say just listen to GFR and have a good time, because its
later then you think. Eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we may die.
In Russia, the dictatorship is back and they are armed to the teeth,
and allied with Iran. In Iran they are close to having Nukes and
there president has already promised to erase Israel from the map and
render the USA Helpless. The Venezuelans along with Iran want to
start an OIL BLOUSE and take oil off the dollar and put it on the
euro, that will crash our economy and it will be 1929 all over again.
China is adding our enemies and watching us slowly belled to death.
We are stretched thin with too small a military. And we are in huge
debt mostly because we want cheep shit from China. It may all over
but the shouting, we are not the same people anymore, we are not
those people willing to suspend unbelief and believe in the USA and
win WW 2, The Muslims are dedicated to dying for there cause and
killing for it, we are not. We love life they love death. If they get
nukes its all over. I think .WW 3 is right around the corner it won't
be long in coming.

Watch RUSSIA with IRAN leading many other Muslims nations attack
Israel and its on. RUSSIA already has a war pact with IRAN, if Israel
moves to take out the nuke sites in IARN ITS ON. and IT WILL GO
NUKULAR. We are divided those of us left alive after the first hits
will have to stick together. I have one suggestion for anyone hear
if you live in a big city get out now. also read the book EPICENTER
by Joel C. Rosenberg.

I don't man to bring anyone down, but everyone ought to get your
ducks in a row and get right with the LORD before its too late. LOVE
your family's and friends and have some fun too!

if the opposite party is running it.

Other highlights, jamming with Neal Schon. We played some Journey
songs live, and there was a big jam at the HOB with Mark Farner playing
the blues. We also jammed backstage with Daltrey on acoustic guitars,
and I will NEVER forget that! Thanks for letting me back you Neal, and
the same goes for Mark Farner. My support on the Grand Funk tunes
earned his respect, and only at the Fantasy Camp can such interesting
moments in this business can happen. You all work hard together and
nobody has any ego or issues. Thank you Mr Farner for making it a good
experience for me.

Feast organizers boost presence of classic rock stars
By Curt Brown

Standard-Times staff writer
NEW BEDFORD — Former Grand Funk Railroad singer and songwriter Mark
Farner brings his own "Great American Band" to open the first night
of the 92nd annual Feast of the Blessed Sacrament this summer.
Mr. Farner wrote such Grand Funk hits as "I'm Your Captain,"
and "We're An American Band" among others.
"He really was the essence of Grand Funk Railroad," said Edward
Camara Jr., director of media relations for the feast.
Mr. Farner and his band will do one show only at 10 p.m. on Thursday,
Aug. 3.
Mr. Farner's booking is in keeping with the feast's tradition of
having a headliner to open the feast.
In past years, acts like the Beaver Brown Band, the Marshall Tucker
Band and Chubby Checker have opened the feast, Mr. Camara said.
Mr. Camara said feast directors are negotiating with groups to close
with a headliner on Sunday night, Aug. 6., and the name being bandied
about is Blue Oyster Cult.
Mr. Camara couldn't confirm Blue Oyster Cult is coming, but he did
say discussions are under way.
"We're looking for a name act for the closing of the feast," he
said. "If Blue Oyster Cult doesn't come through, we'll find someone
of that ilk. They're one of the groups we're talking to."
Reaction to Mr. Farner's scheduled appearance was positive.
"I think they will do well if they play at the feast. I think they
will be a big hit with people over 30," said Sandra Lopes, manager of
Words And Music Ltd., Fairhaven. "I think Blue Oyster Cult will be,
too."
Ms. Lopes said Grand Funk Railroad CDs remain popular with music
buyers. "They are consistent sellers," she said.
Mr. Camara didn't say how much Mr. Farner is charging, but he did say
it is more than $10,000.
He said organizers are always looking for "co-presenters" to assist
with the costs.
"None of these big acts come in for under $10,000," he said.
Mr. Camara said the feast annually attracts 300,000 people over its
four days.
"It's still the largest fair festival in Southeastern Massachusetts
and Rhode Island that doesn't charge admission," he said.
He said the entertainment will continue to be evenly split between
acts of American and Portuguese origination.
He added that the Portuguese music group Zodiac is coming from
California to play at the feast again this year. He said they have
played a couple of times at the feast.

GRAND FUNK RAILROAD DRUMMER SAYS NEW DVD SHOWS BAND WAS LEGIT

With the release of the new Grand Funk Railroad Greatest Hits
package, fans have gotten a whole new perspective on the band. The
DVD that comes with the package has both performance footage and a
promo film the guys made in 1973 that shows how they lived their
lives when not on stage or in the studio. Singer-drummer Don Brewer
said that the material on the DVD really demonstrates that Grand
Funk was an honest band: "We were exactly what you see on those
films and, and that's what strikes me as being important about Grand
Funk, is that it was a very sincere band, and a very sincere kind of
a deal that we, we went through, and a time period we went through,
and, and I really think we were good! (laughs) You know? As much as,
you know, critics like to malign us, you know, I think we were very
good at being Grand Funk."

The DVD includes a TV appearance from 1969, footage from Shea
Stadium in New York City in 1971, and performances from The Palace
Of Auburn Hills in Michigan in 1997.
Grand Funk Railroad pulls into Billy Bob's in Fort Worth, Texas, on
Saturday (August 26th).

MARK FARNER SAYS NEW BALLAD GETTING A LOT OF ATTENTION

Mark Farner's got a new album out called For The People that's full of
his patented Michigan rock-and-soul, but it's a balled titled "Girl"
that's drawing the most attention so far. Farner said that people are
probably reacting so strongly because he really delivered a strong
vocal performance on the track: "When I sang that song, I closed my
eyes, and I envisioned the character of the song, and I tried to act
it out, tried to make it a vision, you know, that the vocal would be
so expressive, that you could actually see what my face was doing when
I'm singing that song."

For The People can be ordered from the official markfarner.com
website.
Farner and his band will play their new material, as well as his hits
from Grand Funk Railroad, when they hit New Bedford, Massachusetts, on
Thursday (August 3rd).
