Being the non-musical instrument playing
person that I have unfortunately become, I feel
it time to ask this ever pondering and lingering
question to you, the Funk Fans that I admire so
much! As a kid growing up and following and loving
the Beatles, I noticed that there were some people
that really didn't care for them. For Example,
some would say that George isn't that good of a
guitar player. He's no Eric Clapton, he's no
Jeff Beck, He's no Jimmy Page and certainly no
Jimi Hendrix. People would say the same thing
about Ringo not being a good drummer. Same comparisons
would be said as well about Ringo. I truly could never
tell the difference quite so closely. I know George
and Ringo wasn't the Jam-bam rip'em up players, but
that's not what their role was. My question is: just
how can anyone tell really who is best? How can you
tell that "X" drummer is really better than "Y" drummer?
Same question applies to all instruments being played
in any given band. To me, just hearing David Gilmour
playing that killer guitar on "Comfortably Numb" I would
say that he is up there as one of the best guitar players
if not the best. But what do I know, I just listen to
the tunes and love what I hear or I don't like what I hear.
Honestly, how can you guys really tell the difference?
I think Don Brewer is the best Drummer just because I'm
partial to Grand Funk. But I also hear how great Neal Peart
is. I do like rush alot and do hear how good the drums sound.
But how can you really tell just who is better than the
others?

Al
