My copy of 'Djin' arrived from cdjapan today, and what a magnificent
beast it is. Twelve tracks of sonic savagery, sonically it comes across
as like 'The Butcher and the Butterfly' but with better songs and much
superior production. It is not all full-on rockers though. There are a
number of quite odd songs - perticularly 'Crow' and 'You (don't love
me). There is also yet another version of 'Ruby' (to follow on
from 'Ruby Throat's' and Hector Zazou's. This is the best one yet. A
lot of credit for the sound of the album must go to Teo Miller, their
old engineer from 'Daisy Chainsaw' and 'Dizzy Q Viper' days who has
returned to handle recording and engineering duties. The 'limited
edition' version (for only a few yen more) comes with a bonus DVD,
recorded in Japan earlier this year. It is probably the best live
concert footage captured of the band, and features 'In red'; 'Cold
Fish'; 'Medicine Jar'; 'Pretty Like Drugs' 'Pretty Polly' and 'Birdnest
Hair'. This is the version that you should get! It is also apparently
available from i-tunes japan.
So, what's the general consensus of 'Djin'? Anyone else heard it yet?
Reckon it is any good?
