Subject: South Ossetia under Georgian attack
alternative-point-of-view@...
Send Email Send Email

Georgia has declared a war on its breakaway region of South Ossetia. Georgian forces are attacking the South Ossetian capital city of Tskhinvali. The attack was launched late on Thursday, at 11:45 p.m. Moscow time. “There is massive artillery shelling from Grad rocket systems, guns and large-calibre mortars from Georgian-controlled territory,” South Ossetia’s information and press committee reported.

Dozens of civilians are reported to have been killed in the firing, and the number of wounded is being verified. The toll is set to rise as the attacks continue. An air strike was launched on the city in the early hours today. Tskhinvali’s population is estimated at about 30,000 people, of whom 90 percent are Russians. Many buildings have been destroyed, dozens of buildings are on fire. The local hospital also came under attack. The medical personnel have been led to an underground shelter, but it is impossible to carry the wounded there due to heavy fire.

Ossetian troops are putting up strong resistance on the approaches to the city. According to Russian peacekeepers, Georgia is bringing armored equipment, artillery, tanks and personnel close to Tskhinvaly and nearby villages. Georgian aircraft are bombing South Ossetian villages. Five Su-25 fighters have attacked the village of Tkverneti.

The positions of Russian peacekeepers came under attack, too, as well as a humanitarian aid convoy led by South Ossetian President Teimuraz Mamsurov.

Officially, Georgia calls it “an operation to bring constitutional order to the Tskhinvali region,” Mamuka Kurashvili, the commander of Georgian peacekeeping forces in South Ossetia, told Rustavi 2 channel. He said he had warned Russian peacekeepers not to meddle.

Teimuraz Yakobashvili, Georgia’s State Minister for Reintegration, told Rustavi 2 that Georgian forces had occupied five South Ossetian villages as a result of the overnight operation. South Ossetian officials denied the report.

Georgia assesses the operation as “freeing the villages from South Ossetian bandit gangs.” “Our goal is to cease fire and riots of bandit gangs and prevent Georgia from becoming a depot for arms and drugs,” Yakobashvili stressed.

Russia strongly denounced Georgia’s attack of South Ossetia and initiated an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council. However, the organization failed to agree on a Russian-drafted statement calling on both sides to stop violence. It urged Georgian neighbors to refrain from provocations and respect an Olympic truce.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Georgia’s aggression would provoke a response from Russia. “Tbilisi is taking very aggressive actions against South Ossetia. Russia demands retaliation,” he said.

Georgia’s attack came hours after President Mikhail Saakashvili declared a ceasefire, saying that Tbilisi would seek a diplomatic solution to the escalating conflict, which he blamed on the breakaway republic.

Georgia’s air forces have Mi-24 and Iroquois helicopters and SU-25Т, SU-25 Scorpion, MiG-21, L-159 ALCA, An-2 and other aircraft. Its air defense troops are equipped with Strela-10 missile systems, ZSU-23-4 Shilka mobile gun systems, and S-125 (Neva) anti-aircraft short-range systems. The republic’s navy forces have high-speed patrol boats, major landing ships, missile ships and gun ships. Ground forces are equipped with the tanks Т-55, Т-54 and Т-72, as well as infantry combat vehicles, combat reconnaissance patrol vehicles, armored personnel carriers; Grad rocket systems, guns and mortars, mostly of Czech origin.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said ethnic cleansing operations were being carried out in South Ossetia.

“The situation in South Ossetia is worsening every hour, the Georgian side is using heavy weapons and unleashing aggression against South Ossetian people,” Lavrov told reporters on Friday.

“Residential quarters in Tskhinvali and nearby villages are under heavy fire, including villages outside the zone of the South Ossetian conflict. A Russian humanitarian aid convoy has been bombed, and reports are coming of ethnic cleansing operations in South Ossetian villages,” Lavrov said.

He also said that Russia would provide urgent humanitarian aid to South Ossetian refugees. “The President has told the Russian government to provide humanitarian aid to people in distress,” he underlined.

Asked about the number of Russian military equipment in South Ossetia, Lavrov recommended that Georgian authorities should count their own jets and tanks that bomb and attack civilians in South Ossetia.

He cited a recent statement by Teimuraz Yakobashvili, Georgia’s State Minister for Reintegration, that Russia should interfere in the conflict as a peacekeeper. “This is exactly what we are doing now,” he emphasized.

The Foreign Minister expressed regret that Georgian officials were making their statements against the background of the EU flag. “I think our European colleagues realize what is going on, and that they will make the right choice,” he stressed. Lavrov reminded that Georgian officials had stubbornly refused to sign documents against the use of violence in conflict zones.

Hi Mike there is a very easy way to capture the fx sound if you have a sound card like Sound Blaster go to the surround mixer and change the record mode from line-in to what you here and the fx's will be recorded just as you hear them.

GuitarFX has fx-slots, read http://GuitarFX.Net
any fx-slot can record to wav.
to record processed sound with effects - select "Record-to-wav"
in the bottom fx-slot.

Record to another software:
Known way: have two sound cards or a multi-chanel sound card.
use 1 sound card for GuitarFX and 2 sound card for other software.
Connect 1 and 2 sound cards with an external cable.
Multi-chanel sound card can do this too without external cable.
Modern made in China sound card price is $5 only.

Also you can look at this site with VST guitar effects plug-ins
for Cakewalk etc. (no need in additional sound cards)

Hi, can anyone tell me how to record in a recording program with the

This program is awesome. I did a search today for soundcard fx  programs. I
am a ham radio and some modes of communication on the radio are run  via the PC
soundcard so I figured there must be a way to run effects on a PC. I  am
enjoying the different effects and am experimenting putting a number of them
together. Does anyone know if there's a way to record your guitar (line in) with
the effects coming through in the recording? God bless.

Mike.

if you own a web site this message can be intereting for you.
I propose my new idea. Webmasters can build their own
advertisment banners into GuitarFX. It's free.
It works only for users/visitors with MS IE.

How-to:
place a link on your own web site:
<a href=http://www.distortica.com >guitar software</a> ,
some visitor of your web site clicks on this link,
then download GuitarFX, and then see your web site logo/banner
on the face of the GuitarFX. Every time the user runs GuitarFX
he sees your logo or link to your site, "clickable"!
Users can click on this link/logo and visit your site!

If you have not a 468*60 jpg banner users will see the text link
to your site. Place 468*60 jpg:
http://yoursitename.com/guitarfxlogo.jpg

Hard to understand?

Well, see working examples:
http://guitar-sound.info/test.htm
http://knockouter.com/test.htm
http://guitarfx.net/test.htm

Visit any of these pages, click on link,
download, install and run GuitarFX, see a logo and/or
text link to the site from wich you visited on the
face of the GuitarFX.

How webmasters can use this feature?
At first GuitarFX will do your site branding for you for free.
Then GuitarFX will return visitors to your site coz early
or later visitors will click on your logo/text-link on the face
of the GuitarFX and will re-visit your site.
You can change at time to time the guitarfxlogo.jpg on your site
file on your site to inform about news on your site
and attract visitors to your site.
I am sure it will have an accumulate effect.
Say, 10 downloaders per day will give your around 300 re-visitors
per month and 3650 re-visitors per year. May be more...
coz I think every http://yoursite.com/guitarfxlogo.jpg file
changes will force users to visit your site again and again.

Well, may be I am stupid and all these are for nothing,
well, then simple ignore this email.

Hi,
I did some interesting experiments with my guitar
and my home theatre system (5 sattelite speakers + sub).
I found that we need in special tunings and presets
to have a good guitar sound from 5.1 systems.
The GuitarFX tunings for 5.1 is different from presets
for stereo headphones or Hi-Fi stereo speakers.
If you have 5.1 and want to try to it for guitar fx
you can download this preset from http://GuitarFX.Net
Preset Number 21288 (see bottom of http://GuitarFX.Net)

Well, First all in my way of thinking this will give one more step to get that kind of sound you are looking for, all the kinds of guitars have some kind of things I call them "nuts" being clear about they are the parts or frets where the guitar sustain more there than another frets, so for giving you a sample If Im using my stratocaster I know my strat sustains better on the keys of E - F# -G but not too much on D so I look that sound in my Gibson Les Paul and for Cminor I turn to my Yamaha for saying something to play Europa, and for all the rest of crazy Keys I use my Ibanez RG320QS, but the Ibanez is a guitar that you know I get tired easy, about the floating tremolo I have to adjust it too tight for the continuos bendings do not affect the other string into to double bending or the octave bending style, so I have to come back to change for a while to another guitar, and I try into my practice amp Fender 38Watts, my Peavey 65Watts, or my Flextone II, and of course my PC so I compare all of them to get the most closer sound on all of them, and for Santana try half and then the whole note bending and the rest will flow for your soul, so all the people in the electric guitar business, have some part of infuences from him. so look close to slash and you will find some parts related to Santana and of course another guys. So everybody have been listening Santana on the radio that´s my point.
See ya.   Enhorabuena y espero lo logres algún dia. Sinceramente desde México

I think to make the cream sustain we must use something like this:
Gain - EQ - EQ - Distortion - EQ
Why two EQs? - I think the sustain needs in hi-gain for
high frequencies only, so two EQs with apropriatly tuned
sliders (more hi freq for hi notes). The single EQ can't
give needed hi gain for hi frequencies.
Under hi-freq I mean only hi guitar notes frequencies,
around 400-800 Hz, do not aplify very hi frequencies.
Sliders' line must look like a hill.
After distortion, I think, we must filter-out very hi freq
again  and amplify frequencies related to hi freq notes again.
You can add noise-gate to the top fx-slot too.

I use software from Creative to record. I just select Line In as my
source, and it records with the effects. It's a little hassle to
work with another application, but the quality is great, and I can
change bit rate on recordings.

Placing record at the bottom has all the effects while at the top no

Although I can play loads of things now because I have been playing
since I was 15 and I am now 26, metallica is the reason I picked up
a guitar in the first place. I can play almost every one of their
songs from kill them all to load as a result. Anyway, metallica,
pantera, slayer, megadeth, they use an awful lot of power chords and
almost always use JUST downstrokes for a heavier sound. They also
have a no money limit on amplifiers and such (mesa boogie. oh my, so
sexy.) which I am sure helps. :) Personally, if you want that fat
heavy sound, I use EMG pickups, (EMG-81 humbuckers to be exact, they
are active "pickups", they are the same ones metasllica, slayer and
pantera use, they are like nothing you have ever heard and they run
on a 9-volt battery.) I also run my combo amp through a BASS cab for
bass guitar instead of a guitar cab. If you do these things, you
will be a very happy guitarist my friend.

How can I record the cool stuff I can do with guitar fx to my hard
drive? Whenever I open my n-track studio and try to record, it only
records my guitar music without the effects?
can Anyboy help?

---------------------------------------------
Two ways to record wav files:

1) to record processed guitar sound select in the bottom fx-slot effect called
"Record to wav file", tune it, record.
if you want to hear processed sounds but record clean select in the TOP fx-slot
effect called "Record to wav file", tune it, record.

2) buy a second sound card, connect Line-out of the first sound card to the
Lin-In of the second sound card using standard cable,
use the first sound card in GuitarFX, and use the second sound card in other
mixing-recording software or build in any Windows wav recorder.
