Although I can play loads of things now because I have been playing
since I was 15 and I am now 26, metallica is the reason I picked up
a guitar in the first place. I can play almost every one of their
songs from kill them all to load as a result. Anyway, metallica,
pantera, slayer, megadeth, they use an awful lot of power chords and
almost always use JUST downstrokes for a heavier sound. They also
have a no money limit on amplifiers and such (mesa boogie. oh my, so
sexy.) which I am sure helps. :) Personally, if you want that fat
heavy sound, I use EMG pickups, (EMG-81 humbuckers to be exact, they
are active "pickups", they are the same ones metasllica, slayer and
pantera use, they are like nothing you have ever heard and they run
on a 9-volt battery.) I also run my combo amp through a BASS cab for
bass guitar instead of a guitar cab. If you do these things, you
will be a very happy guitarist my friend.
How can I record the cool stuff I can do with guitar fx to my hard
drive? Whenever I open my n-track studio and try to record, it only
records my guitar music without the effects?
can Anyboy help?
---------------------------------------------
Two ways to record wav files:
1) to record processed guitar sound select in the bottom fx-slot effect called
"Record to wav file", tune it, record.
if you want to hear processed sounds but record clean select in the TOP fx-slot
effect called "Record to wav file", tune it, record.
2) buy a second sound card, connect Line-out of the first sound card to the
Lin-In of the second sound card using standard cable,
use the first sound card in GuitarFX, and use the second sound card in other
mixing-recording software or build in any Windows wav recorder.
Hi,
I have SB Live! and there is no problem with it. I use Guitar FX as
processor, but MP3, waves and other I play with diffrerent players.
For example While I play on my guitar I have GuitarFX and
ModPlugTracker playing together.
Probably you should install different driver for your sound card or
just change it to SB Live! :))
Greetings

Hi!
First of all you'll have to see that if your sound card is Full
Duplex or not.
If it is Full Duplex then it can play more than one sound
applications at once.
Sometimes a problem arises that your sound card is Full Duplex but
it does not play songs with any guitar application. This problem is
due to the sound card drivers. Try to install different drivers
until you get your problem solved.
I had the same case, as I dont have any guitar gear, I only use
different software with my guitar for amplification and effects. But
after trying many drivers for a full duplex sound card I have
overcome the problem.

I can pre record a wav file using windows sound recorder and load
that in to Guitar FX, and it seems to work fine. But even while that
is playing and i start playing as well the fx only take place on the
pre recorded guitar. The other guitar just comes through clean as
though its not going through the Guitar FX program at all.
Im using Windows XP, and the sound card is an, Advance AC97 Audio
that is built on to the motherboard.
Any help would be apprectiated!

this mod can be interesting only as first step showing that
realy any man can do it, but it's not very good.
If you want make "all in black" skin you must modify
to black all *.bmp files you find in skin's zip file
-----end of comment----
This is the original skin "SymbiOS.zip"
http://guitarfx.net/gfx_new.JPG
This is the moded skin "SymbiOS.zip"
http://guitarfx.org/skins/gfx_gui_moded.jpg
How to make these changes?
1) Extract controls.bmp from SymbiOS.zip
2) make changes in controls' pictures like you want
3) replace controls.bmp in SymbiOS.zip with your own moded.
This is the example of moded controls.bmp
http://guitarfx.org/skins/controls.bmp
The author of the best moded skin
will receive a full version of the GuitarFX 3.04
It seems tons guitarist can't understand how to use backgraound
music to jam with hard/metal rock stars.
This is explanations:
Many sites, see links here:
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/guitarfx/links
have backgraound mp3+tabs for famous rock music.
But GuitarFX can playback wav file only.
The solution is to convert mp3 into wav.
Old freeware WinAmp 1.4 can do it for free.
It's in File section of this Group.
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/guitarfx/files
Recomended fx-chain:
1)noise gate
2)EQ
3)Distortion
4)EQ
5)Reverb
6)gain
7)Playback
Hi. I am new to the guitar fx world. I have played around with it
and made this (much to my supprize). I would just like to have your
oppinions on this .pre. I find it to be much like that of horror
movie sound effects (if put in fourth lowest sound rate), though I
sometimes can over exert myself.
(I don't know if I should have named it this)
http://guitarfxsoftware.com/upload/preset_CreepyTunnel_8737137.pre
I was also wandering, How do I get other guitar fx plugins (vst or
whatnot) into this program like I have read other users saying to do?
---- mumufuk comments ---
Currently GuitarFX can't use vst, but may be in future version...
each fx-slot is a muti-stage module. think of it as a pedal board.
if you go to see a band, the guitarist will have a pedal board to
select which effect he decides to use. By clicking them with his
foot he can choose clean (just amp) or he can send it through the
pedal board and add effects such as distortion, delay, flange, etc.
He can choose one or combine them by using his foot to click on each
effect either on or off note: this information is intended for
people who are new to guitarfx software.( advanced users of guitarfx
software or professional sound people please disregard this post)
guitarfx is like a pedal board. But's it's much more. In a major
recording studio when a band goes to cut thier tracks (songs, albulms)
the guitarist could use the pedal board he uses live to perform (in
concert) or he could go into a computer controled effects device that
uses software such as guitarfx to 1) control the aqmplitude of the
signal from the guitar. Signal db in. 2) add sound colour,
distortion, flange, chourus, pitch shift, parametric eq,delay,
etc, etc. with the rise of computer use in recent years, many
people
have in thier homes advanced state of the art audio computers
equipped with 1) advanced sound cards for audio in and out. 2)
software to run programs to procces the sound(signal db in, effects,
and create audio files such as wav, mp3,ogg,wma that may be saved on
their computer, and then sent to the internet, stored on cd or any
one of many possibilities. With guitarfx you have much more than a
simple pedal board, you have equipment equal to what would be found
in a modern state of the art recording studio.
_.Now, how do you get the sound from the guitar into
guitarfx.? Read posts on this site from the advanced users, interact
with them, pick thier brains, they do not mind.Just don't annoy them
by asking questions that you could find the answers to yourself. And
experiment with
the different fx-slots. try making your own chains, try and remember
the fx-slot sounds for each setting, save your effects chains and
name the files to something that reminds you of the sound it made.I
hope this was helpful and I will make another post on sound theory
soon. Please do
not visit my web site as it is under constuction. I am busy playing
guitar and recording, but it will be up soon, Jam on
i'd try the method that 'mammuk' told... but the wav file is
affected by the effects... it cannot come out with the original
sound. can anyone teach me, how to overcome this problem? i want
to follow the song while i'm playing my guitar...
--- mumufuk comments ---
Man! why not to read the text at http://GuitarFX.Net before ask?
Clean guitar signal goes to the top fx-slot, then proceessed
by effects and outputed from the bottom fx-slot.
If you select "Playback" in the top fx-slot you will mix
wav file with clean guitar sound and process both!
So, place "Playback" in the bottom fx-slot, in this case
you mix processed guitar with non-processed wav file.
I have tried the GuitarFx which is excellent, and with that
installed I want to expand on the possibilities, I would like to
play some mp3 files at the same time while playing my guitar and
following with the music, now is there any way that we could go
around this , I have notice that with the guitarfx and as it is open
I can't play music anymore, becaus of a driver that is already being
used or something, would the solution be to plug in a second sound
card or any sugjestions would be appreciated.
Thank You

GuitarFX 3.04 has all you need. Take your mp3 file, load it into
freeware mp3 player "WinAmp" from winamp.com, select in winamp
output as wav file (read winamp help for how-to), then playback
your mp3 using winamp. You will have wav file extracted from your mp3.
Then run GuitarFX 3.04, select in top fx-slot the "Playback",
press tune button near top fx-slot, load your wav file,
constract your effects chain, press "Start"
button on the face of the GuitarFX 3.04, enjoy!

I saved my version of joe satriani/always with me always with you
setting @http://guitarfx.info/show.php
preset number is 2956 joesatrianiruben
download it and save it in your guitarFX PRESETS folder. try it and
tell me what you think.

works Ok, but noise gate must be tuned for your own guitar signal level,
Pentium 900 minimum, if you have slow PC, uncheck Stereo, it saves 50%
of CPU.
This is (attached) new interesting preset
for latest modification of the GuitarFX from

Hi, I'm trying to get a very heavy distortion sound, like Pantera,
Slipknot, Evanescence, Tool, Deftones, etc. How can I get it? What
effect is the best for it (DOD, line 6, boss, digitech)? What
equalization is best for it?
Direct Download Link on new GuitarFX 3.04:
http://guitarfx.org/gfx_xp.zip
New in 3.04:
a) Distortion Plus unit with build in special guitar 16 bands
Equalizer.
b) New preset - "Tube Overdrive"
c) demo1.wav source file with my guitar signal, non-processed,
included in the installation pack, you can compare you guitar
sound with this example...
d) 3.04 has auto save of last preset and other tunings.
Enjoy!
I would like to get a guitar sound like "Linkin Park", what do you
recommend?

Good guitar will be great too :-)
Hello everyone
I just joined the group today.
I'd like to ask a basic question about guitar playing, I hope someone
will help me out.
Guitar players like Metallica's or other heavy metal bands, do they
play one string only with a heavy distortion? It sounds like it's one
note at a time but it sounds REAL filling and rich. Does that effect
mainly come from the effect device and amps they use, or does it have
anything to do with guitar type and strings types?
Any comment is great
Thank you very much
Hi GuitarFX users,
Hope everythin' is fine.
I'm from India. WEll, I think you already
have a good wdm solution explained to you. Still,
I wonder if you're from some other field than IT.
In case, you are well then, I suggest you install
the CD you'd got with your motherboard. It is supposed
to have sound support drivers for the on-board sound
card. You sure will find a wdm driver apart from the
others such as AC97, etc. Just run the setup. You can
invest in a moderately good sound card for some 300
odd Rupees. But, the motherboards these days have a
fairly good sound card built on-board. So, you could
be better of just running the sound driver setup from
the motherboard CD.
If you'v Windows 9x on your system...go and upgrade
to Windows 2000 or better Windows XP, 'cause these OS
have fairly sophiticated driver bank intsalled within
them...and so they detect the on-board and other well
recognized sound cards automatically and install the
apt driver by themselves.
If it all sound stupid pls...don't mind. Infact,
it's the same thing that's worked for me uptil now.
May be you know more about PC and hardware quirks than
I do. But, I'm just trying to help you out. If it's
any good an advice, I'd pleased.
take care,
bye,

Please help...
I would purchase this software if I could get a wave file made. When
I use it with cakewalk or windows sound recorder I get the guitar
played back with the effects removed.??? And I would like to get the
sound that I am playing at the moment to sound like what is actually
produced. I use a 2.83 gighertz PC and sound blaster audigy with
512meg mem and 80 gigbyte hard drive.
I also cannot get the enclosed wav file recorder to work. If it is
recording I do not know were the output is or what format. Or is
this disabled in the trial version?
