I'm not sure I've heard of a 'guitar oriented' fake book. By the time one is
indulging in swing music a 'standards' fake book seems to fit the bill. One I
like is the Just Standards Real Fake Book which is now published by Alfred
(formerly by Warner Bros). There is a companion Just Jazz book and I like them
both. The Sher books are good and widely used. My favorites are not
necessarily the best, just the ones I go to most. These all have guitar chords
For older jazz, I really like the Firehouse Five Fake book although I suspect it
is out of print. Some of the out of print books might be available in digital
format.
I also have three in the Jazz Bible series one of which is the Swing Era but I
don't use those much anymore. He avoids advanced jazz chords and some of his
substitutions perplex me but for someone not real advanced in jazz chording it
is a helpful book for learning the heads.
There are a gazillion fake books, many of which are listed here:
http://www.seventhstring.co.uk/fbindex.html This site is helpful to locate a
specific song.
I'm not sure if you're looking for swing era tunes specifically. My friends
will take pop and country and latin tunes and swing them as well. About the
only critera is that it have more than a three-chord structure but we've made
exceptions even to that. Don't know if this helps you at all, I might have
misunderstood your inquiry. However, if you are new to fakebooks I would
recommend one of the comprehensive ones as mentioned above rather than a 'Best
of' because you'll end up getting the bigger one eventually anyway. If you're
not new to fakebooks then I'm preaching to the choir most likely.
