It's just 2 weeks until RushCon! Hope everyone is ready! It's going
to be a beautiful weekend in Toronto, and this year's convention is not to be
missed!

TRAVEL AND REGISTRATION
By now, you should have booked your flight, your hotel room and registered for
the Con. (If you haven't yet, no worries-- you can still register and pay online
at www.rushcon.org up until 7/22, and after that, at the door.)

FRIDAY - "OPEN SEA AND CITY LIGHTS" ISLAND BBQ
When you arrive in Toronto, we will have convention registration open starting
at 2pm on Friday the 24th at the Days Hotel, so come on down and get checked in.
Buses will be leaving for the Toronto Island at 4 and you don't want to be late!

TORONTO CITY WORKERS STRIKE
Speaking of our trip to the islands.... a few of you may have heard that there
is currently a Toronto city workers strike and wonder how this might impact our
trip-- never fear! The strike will not affect any of our planned activities.
(And hopefully it will be over by July 24th anyway.)

CONVENTION DETAILS
So much to do and see this year! We will have games sign up at
registration and there are glittering prizes to be won! We will be doing
Countdown and JeoParody on Saturday, and competition will be fierce! We greatly
look forward to hearing our first guest speaker Michael Mosbach tell many tales
from the road with Rush, and all the insanity that possibly ensues. Saturday
night we head over to C'est What club to rock out with Tribute Band Contest
Winners "LIMELIGHT!" We will start the show with our karaoke contest, and the
winner gets to sing a song with the band! You can finally live out your rock
star dreams! (Leather pants are optional.) Sunday morning, we will be touring
the hallowed halls of Anthem Records. It's a gold mine of photo opportunities
with all of the gold records and artifacts. Sunday afternoon, we welcome our
second guest speaker, Martin Popoff, who will be telling us about his role in
the upcoming Rush Documentary and talk about this biography of the band and
history working with
Rush. The Charity Auction is shaping up nicely with many unique and
collectible Rush items donated by many wonderful people! We've raised over
$47,500 for charity so far, and know we'll pass the $50,000 mark this year! All
of the monies collected at the Charity Auction will be donated to the Daily
Bread Food Bank of Toronto. Sunday night, we let loose on our pub crawl,
exploring a lot of cool Toronto haunts, with some Rush related stops on the way.

Gonna be a FANTASTIC weekend, we really hope to see you all there!

The tribute band playing this year's RushCon is Limelight from NY.
This will be their 3rd time at the Toronto convention. Would not have been my
choice, but they are a tight band.

Here's my take on them...
I'm not gonna say they are the worst I've heard, but they are very un-Rush like.
They only play songs from the 1st 10 albums, at least what I've seen in the
past. They neglect a lot of good tunes from Power Windows on up. They have 4
members, the singer who is very good, does not even play any instruments.
Guitarist and drummer can hold their own just fine, but not above and beyond
like some would expect. The bass player has a very metal sounding bass, nothing
like Ged's. No Rick or even a Fender Jazz? C'Mon boys! This is a tribute to
RUSH!

Well, congrats anyway to Limelight. They will have a blast playing again for
sure, and they are worth checking out if you have never heard them. As for me, I
will be saving a lot of money by skipping this year. The economy is just hitting
too hard for me to warrant a trip to Toronto, maybe next year.

The old Rush Tribute Bands Site & Forums got attacked last week along with the
forums so I decided to close the forums and combine them into this one. The site
portion has been moved to:

http://rushtributes.comxa.com (new)
with the redirect:
http://rushtributes.shorturl.com (still working fine).

So please update any bookmarks.
Anything with dreamwater or Rycohost in the URL is gone for good and should be
deleted.
Rushtributes.co.cc may get redirected eventually, but is currently down.

Hope that clears up any confusion.

That was a pretty decent radio special. But I gotta say that the best part was
the very last word from the boys:
"This is Neil Peart from Rush."
"This is Alex Lifeson from Rush."
"This is Geddy Lee, who plays with Alex Lifeson."

I'm not sure why, but what Geddy said just caught me off guard and sent me into
fits of laughter. :)

Rushcon 9
"Elevate from the Norm"
Ninth Annual Rush Fan Convention
Toronto July 24-26, 2009

REGISTRATION OPENS AT WWW.RUSHCON.ORG March 11, 2009
Join hundreds of Rush fans from all over the world at the 9th annual Rush fan
convention – "RushCon" – to be held in downtown Toronto, Ontario Canada July
24-26, 2009!
The organizers are doing things a little differently this year, putting the
optional fan trip at the beginning of the weekend rather than the end. This
year, the festivities begin on Friday night with an optional* fan BBQ and
bonfire welcome party held on the Toronto Islands! The "Open Sea and City
Lights" Bonfire BBQ begins at the Days Hotel, where fans will be transported by
bus to the lakeside docks, ferried over to Centre Island and treated to an
afternoon and evening of beach, bonfires and BBQ with plenty of music, games and
fun!*
Saturday morning kicks off RushCon's INTERNATIONAL FAN CONVENTION in the
Wellesley Room at the Days Hotel and Conference Centre – 30 Carlton St. Here
you'll have a chance to meet and mingle with fans from all over the world, shop
for rare and collectible merchandise, or test your knowledge against fellow fans
by getting involved in a variety of games, contests and events.

This year, fans be treated to two fantastic GUEST SPEAKERS:
Michael Mosbach – Michael has been the Security Director for the band Rush for
over 11 years, and through four extensive tours. Also known as "PRAETORIAN,"
Michael has been Neil Peart's riding partner since 2002- logging thousands of
miles and adventures across the U.S., Canada, South America, and Europe.
Through his many years as Rush's director of security, his close friendship with
Neil, and his seemingly endless miles of motorcycle travel with the elusive Mr.
Peart, Michael will no doubt have many illuminating tales to tell!
Martin Popoff – Canadian-born music journalist and critic who covers the genre
of heavy metal music, Martin is the senior editor and co-founder of Brave Words
& Bloody Knuckles (BW&BK) magazine. He has written over twenty books that both
critically evaluate heavy metal and document its history. One such book is
2004's "CONTENTS UNDER PRESSURE: 30 Years of Rush at Home and Away", an
authorized biography of the band and it's longstanding career. Martin will
discuss his experiences writing his extensive Rush biography and his most recent
involvement working closely with director Sam Dunn on the soon-to-be-released
Rush documentary and full-length film.

The fun continues Saturday Night, where buses will transport you to an exclusive
private party featuring a carefully selected RUSH TRIBUTE BAND. Bands will be
selected by a panel of hard-core fans and the winner of this contest will be
announced on May 1, 2009. For information on how to submit your band for
consideration, please visit our website here.

Sunday, we continue with more games, events, speakers, a private tour of Anthem
Records and finally our annual CHARITY AUCTION featuring Rush memorabilia. Rare
and autographed items are sold to the highest bidder with 100% of the proceeds
to benefit the Toronto Daily Bread Food Bank. Over the years, Rush fans have
raised over $47,500 for the Daily Bread Food Bank of Toronto!
Donations of auction items needed! If you have any autographed, rare or
collectible "Rush" memorabilia you would like to donate to our charity auction,
please contact Holly Smith at auction@... All items donated will be
auctioned to the highest bidder with 100% of the proceeds going to the Daily
Bread Food Bank of Toronto.

RushCon is hosted by Force 10 Enterprises, a non-profit organization formed
entirely by Rush fans for Rush fans . Force 10 was formed exclusively to host
RushCon and ensure that each year the proceeds are donated to our designated
charity, the Daily Bread Food Bank of Toronto (http://www.dailybread.ca)

*(priced separately, includes transportation, dinner, and entertainment.)

Actually that cover is the booklet cover inside S&A. So I guess we can say that
S&A has 2 different covers. Then they recycled that inside one by adding Live to
it.
I added a scan of both together to the files section so you can compare.

I think the one on the far left is S&A Live, so where is S&A? (the green and
yellow cover based on the Indian painting)

Also, I noticed the 1st second is cut off of the Driven, The Pass, Show Don't
Tell & Far Cry videos. Maybe it is my DVD player? Anybody else notice this? I
will test it out on another DVD player when I get a chance.

Did everybody get theirs?

Here's a quick review...

I like the packaging, pretty much what I expected. Artwork is standard
Hugh Syme consistent with the previously released Retro CDs. All the
Atlantic album covers grace this cover. Strangely missing is the cover
of Snakes and Arrows though.

First, Disk 1, the audio CD. I think Half The World deserved to be on
here, but we do get the video of it. I guess they decided on the live
version of Ghost of a Chance instead. The remastered tracks of
Earthshine and One Little Victory sound a lot better, but I can still
hear a bit of distortion and clipping in there. I guess this is as
good as it will get without a complete remixing. They seem clearer and
you can hear the echo effects on Geddy's voice more now. The volume
levels are much better though, and more consistent with the other
tracks. It does make me want to hear all of Vapor Trails remastered now.

Disk 2, the DVD. The bonus videos are a nice touch. It's great to have
all the official videos now. The inclusion of the Colbert Report
footage was nice, but I actually already made my own DVD of that. I
would have preferred the inclusion of something rare instead.
Congratulations to Bobby Standridge (BobbysBrane.com), for getting his
video of Mal Nar included on this. He must be one very stoked Rush fan!!
