Re: [hammered_dulcimer] first hammered dulcimer

When I was looking to buy a hammered dulcimer, I read
up as much as I could on the subject, and as I like to
play mainly popular music, I decided on a chromatic
instrument so that no notes would be missing. Also,
because the notes are arranged each note a half tone
above the next, the arrangement of the instrument is
easy to remember, and if you put sticky circles with
the notes written on them, easy to play if you've
played other instruments.

There are differences in the number of strings for
each note for different instruments. All my notes
have four strings which gives a nice sound, but I'm
sure others have their preferences. You'll also want
to buy an inexpensive piano tuner.

I also would buy an instrument that has the features
and sound qualities that you like, no matter what the
price. I'm sure that if you're like me, that you'll
never get tired of playing it!!!

Dear Tara - my suggestion is to either buy a used dulcimer made by a well-known maker, like Master Works or Derrogie (spelling?) or buy new from them. If you...

Actually there are a couple of options: 1. If you get lucky you might find a used hammer dulcimer but you've got to watch the price carefully. An inexpensive...
