Hi,
Remo has several new hand drums you might want to watch for in coming months.
One is what looks to be a very versatile, and portable, one called the Modular
drum. It
comes in a padded gig bag with drum heads in two different thicknesses, and with
three
separate sound tubes that can be attached to the basic drum to change the sound.
Remo
says the drum can sound like a quinto, a conga, a doumbek, a djembe, or a
Japanese
shime daiko drum by changing the various components, and it can be played with
hands
or sticks.

They also have a drum called a Tubanito, which looks like Remo's answer to LP's
Compact
Conga. Both products are basically tunable conga heads without the shells,
suitable for
mounting on snare stands. Either the LP or the Remo products would fit nicely
into a drum
kit or percussion setup without taking much space. They're far lighter than the
real
instruments, and the LP product, at least, provides a surprising conga-like
sound.

Remo has a history of answering percussion questions that no one has asked, but
sometimes they come up with interesting and useful products. These two might
deserve a
look whenever they show up in stores.
