HANDEL-L is a discussion list initially founded by The American Handel Society, but open to everybody wishing to discuss the music, life and times of George Frideric Handel (1685-1759), and his contemporaries. Subscribers are welcome to initiate or respond to a wide variety of topics. "Lurkers" are welcome to monitor proceedings. This homepage contains an archive of messages that demonstrates the variety of topics and contributors HANDEL-L draws together from around the world.
All Handel enthusiasts, at any level of specialisation, are encouraged to provide reviews and feedback concerning recordings, opera productions, concerts, and literature. HANDEL-L combines this appreciation of Handel's music with comments, short reports, and discussion from people who maintain a serious interest in the composer and his world: the discussion list is a valuable source for breaking the latest Handel news around the world.
HANDEL-L was initially created by the late Prof. Howard Serwer, and its second moderator was Prof. Graydon Beeks. Its third moderator was David Vickers, but the caretakers of the list are currently Les Robarts and Brad Leissa. HANDEL-L subscribers might enjoy the website http://gfhandel.org which features Handelian chronologies and anecdotes, an HWV catalogue, details of new recordings and publications, reviews, an international guide to forthcoming concerts, exclusive interviews, and comprehensive links to Handel sources on the web.
HANDEL-L is uncensored, and depends on the goodwill of its subscribers. Its moderators wish to keep their interference minimal, but members who perpetually post antagonistic messages or premeditated personal insults will be moderated -- or worse. The Handelian community is generally a very friendly one, and here at HANDEL-L we do endeavour to "live and let live" despite the occasional storm in a teacup.
