Yup, none of us appear to go here very often any more. Still
listening to heavy metal, probably will never stop no matter how old
I get.

Dave your song is not here.

Playlist for today:
PARAMAECIUM--Echoes From the Ground
ARVINGER--Helgards Fall
VENI DOMINE--The Album of Labor

What has everyone else been listening to. Secular or Christian.

It has been forever since i have been on here. This band has probably
been discussed before. As I Lay Dying is sooo good. If you do not
have their cd Frail Words Collapse you must go buy it. Everythig on
this album is superb. The guitars, vocals, and their drummer is
amazing.

Perhaps the punctuation threw you off. I read it to mean that he was
listening to the first LS and also stuff by Deliverance. But either
way, you have to keep your eyes on Bob, He's a misunderstanding
waiting to happen.. haha.

I also listened to the first LS yesterday and was digging it. Ive
been all into speed metal lately. I popped in some Powermad also. Not
real well known but the album 'absolute power' is pretty good stuff.

Well, I am a more metal listener than hardcore and metalcore. I like
your traditional metal, thrash, death metal, black metal. But the
hardcore screaming sortof just gets to me. Furthermore, I missed the
entire scene because I sort of got preached the rock n roll is evil
thing for so many years. Therefore mostly I am going back and
discovering what I missed. Have been listening to an awful lot of
Barren Cross, Mortification, Tourniquet, Metonia, some Living
Sacrifice particularily their first album, Deliverance. Also like a
lot of prog metal as well. One album that you absolutely have to get
is Theocracy if this tthe kind of music you like.

Good points Bro, That may be a reason I havent been as much into the
scene as I once was. I havent bought much new stuff in the hard realm
for a while. Ive been buying more praise albums than anything. To me,
one of the things I love about music in general is when they use it
as a conduit to proclaim their faith in God. I hadnt really
consciously thought about it but I do see what you mean.

Its a shame to see bands that sweat through the tough years when
theyre small yet focused on God only to make it big, where they have
such a powerful sounding board, only to turn into a noncomittal rock
band. Such is not the case for everyone but its happened enough to
times to notice a trend. Its like when they get into the spotlight,
they come across to the industry and fans like "See? we're no
differant than you. We can rock, we just stay away from typical bad
imagery (for the most part)." Its like its a get big then stay-below-
the-radar-and-blend-in campaign.

Yeah, you always seem to get me thinking back on track. Still like a
lot of secular music with crappy lyrics though. Was listening to
Nevermore today, just about everything they ever put out.

That Living Sacrifice is about as close to Slayer as you can get as a
Christian band. How about that METONIA--Time to Die. That is some
great death metal. Have you got EXTOL's--Synergy?

The last book I read was the final book of the Left Behind Series. I
have been telling myself for years that I was going to read those
C.S. Lewis books. I guess next time I am in Borders I will have to
pick up one of those books

Thanks Bob. You know I feel pretty strongly about that topic.

Havent heard anything by Thoecracy. I took your advice and popped in
the 1st LS among the other CDs I been going through. Good stuff.

Read any good books lately? I have been tearing through a bunch of
stuff. I read a couple fiction books by CS Lewis recently. Out of the
Silent Planet and Perelandra. That Hideous Strength is next. A space
trilogy they are. Deep stuff. Really insightful and imaginative.

Theocracy. Probably one of the best power metal albums to come out in

is top notch.

We've talked about it before. But for the sake of not posting much in
the past year or so, I'll rehash my stance on this topic.

I dont know which bands you consider to be "even the worst of it" but
if youre talking about the Slayers, Cannibal Corpses, Deicide, Dimmu
Borgirs, etc of the world, take the following thoughts to heart.
Whether you realize it or not, whether you can even admit it or not.
The things that you surround yourself with are the things that are
going to influence you. Can you really listen to a cd that has great
music and honestly judge that what they are voicing to that music is
irrelevant just because you dont pay it heed? Think about it.

Or think about it this way, and forgive me if Ive already used this
analogy with you, I just think it really put things into perspective
for me. What if you are allowing the lyrics to be too distant and
impersonal. Take a song by Slayer from the hell awaits album for
example. I broke this cd and threw it away a while ago but the lyrics
have stuck with me (unfortunately). "kill the preachers only son,
watch the infant die, bodily dismemberment, drink the purest blood"
So because theoretically we cant fully understand that this is what
he is saying or because maybe we just mentally tune out until the
guitar solos kick in, this is acceptable? Ignorance is bliss?

Think about it this way. What if they are singing about your son, or
daughter, or Mother, or Wife. "Kill Bob's only son... etc". If thats
what they sing do you still go out and buy the album and crank this
crap out the of your car while you play air guitar and play drums on
the wheel? Ignorance is bliss?

How much more so then should we take it personally... extra
personally when people are blasphemous and make a mockery of God.
They dont even disguise what they say. You dont have to make any
substitutions because they spell it right out that way.

Is a fleeting pleasure, no matter how crushing the riff or how
masterful the solo worth the price it exacts in blinding us to the
truth and the insult it makes against God?

Think about it.

The latest couple albums Ive invested in are Jeff Deyo- Light and
Third Day - Wire. More hard rock type stuff. The Jeff Deyo CD is
awesome. Aside from those 2 Ive really been just dusting off some old
stuff. Mostly speed metal from the late 80s early 90s like
Deliverance- Weapons of our warfare. Man, that stuff still rips.
