This group is dedicated to the memory of the great cellist and teacher, Harvey Shapiro (1911-2007), to his colleagues, and to all the cellists who were his students over the years. With the news of his recent death on October 25, 2007, this group can be a central location for those who wish to post their memories of him, as well as any photos or other relevant material. Eventually there needs to be a more detailed web site or blog honoring his life and career, but this will get us started; web suggestions are welcome.

It's possible that in recounting our memories of Harvey, his unique ability to swear at his cello students in nearly every known language may make quotations a bit tricky here, but I assume Yahoo won't mind. If your honest to God quote is especially compelling and memorable, go ahead, put it in, and if need be give it an R rating up front for the younger crowd. Given the experiences we all had, your memories may be positive, or may be negative, or both. Write about him in any way you care to remember him. Feel free to spread the word to others you know who would want to join the group.
