...to the Rock Goddess Rainbow Blight. I just came from the East
Village club Continental, where the Toilet Boys, the Dictators,
Furious george, Marky Ramone, C.J. Ramone, Jerry Only and Dez Cadena
of the Misfits, among others, paid tribute to Dee Dee Ramone. It was
a great show all around. Jerry, Dez, and Marky Ramone were the
highlight of the show. I got to talk with Jerry and Dez before the
show for a moment. He was quick to smile when I mentioned Rainbow
Blight, and told me to be sure and send his love.
The Death of DeeDee really sucks. The Ramones were the first big New
York City Punk act. While the style of music has evolved, the same
attitude of "Fuck what the record companies say, be who you are and be
damn proud of it" is what drives bands like Hate In The Box to self
produce their own material and market themselves the way they want to,
and not the way some suit says it should be done.
Rock'n'Roll today is in the same pit of of mediocrity that it was in
the 70's. When acts like the Ramones came along, they changed the
whole scene by just doing what they wanted. Let's hope bands like
Hate In The Box, Jack Off Jill and Otto's Daughter have the same effect.
